Thats the problem we shouldnt be looking for a technically gifted CB.Were TA Bouldy or Sol technically gifted? Are Vidic and Terry? What we need is someone who can head the ball away and kick the ball into row z.Someone who can organise a defence. We need a brick shithouse whose only job is to defend.

I would go for Hangerland myself. Some say he's slow but Terry is no sprinter

I'm not disagreeing with you at all mate but am just saying that is a reason why wenger wont buy him or any player like him :(

Personally I would sign mertesacker......he is a big powerful commanding player who I would hope has the german "thou shalt not pass" winning mentality. Again some have suggested that he has a lack of pace but we have enough pace in the rest of our backline and centre backs in particular are all about balance.....1 to do the slogging and 1 to mop up the loose balls. Another reason why I would opt to sign him above the players mentioned is that I feel we need to make a marquis signing to instill a bit of confidence about the club again and maybe shake off this selling club image and this guy, an established german international, would meet those requirements and doesnt seem to be over-priced either 8)

That's because he has readily admitted (and so has eveyone else) that he has been awful this season, on his way out imo as a top defender, not the answer for me, would be a big gamble.

What about Alex at chavski, doesn't get much play time there, good defender, technically good, takes a mean free kick as well.

Or is he on silly money over there?

Seriously mate the guy is not even 27 years old yet so how can he be on his way out as a top defender ?? :? :? He may well have had a bad season this season but would you say cesc has had a bad season for us and if so does that mean he is no longer good enough for our club ? Lets be honest here, mertesacker would be a huge improvement on the clowns we currently have in his position

By the way his cheap price tag might have more to do with the fact that he is out of contract in 2012 than it does to do with his ability 8)

Many players can be finished at 27 onwards, look at michael owen, once a world class finisher and centre forward, next a has been because of injuries and maybe just not wanting it any longer.

Sorry I diasagreed with you and you have to put thos shite emoticons up to dismiss anyone else's vierw but heyho I disagree with you and HE HAS BEEN SHIT in an average league imo he would get murdered week in week out in this league.

Subotic is the man we need, though I'd happily take Samba as he'd be a vast improvement on anyone currently playing for us and we already know he can play in England.

I think this should be the deciding factor on who we go for

Seriously leftfoot you need to have a little chat with yourself in a corner somewhere - the "emoticons" that I used were the puzzled one cos I was baffled as to why you claimed a 26 yr old player was finished, i used the embarassed and sad emoticon cos our defence is embarassing and it saddens me and finally I used the cool emoticon indicating that to get an established international footballer who is only 26yrs old for a fee around 10m would be well cool. Now you tell me how and where I have dismissed your views in any part of that - you dont like mertesacker and have been quite open in your opposition to signing him and that is fine by me cos tbh I am not 100% sure myself but I will always argue that signing him would be better than signing cahill or samba but the more important issue here is how you feel dismissed or disregarded from what I considered was just another peaceful debate on here

Exactly! Squillaci was a good player in spain and france. Look at him now!!!

Samba, Hangeland, Cahill or Subotic for me.

A lot of players can get finished before 30, but those are typically the players who 1. play heavy-sprinting positions and 2. play from a young age. Owen is a great example of a player who was overused and felt it by his late 20s. Defenders, keepers, they don't put as much strain on their body and as such have a much better shelf life.

Mertesacker might be a bit of a 'friendly giant' looking at his no-red-card record. I'd prefer a little more grit, although he would still be a great improvement to our squad.

I continue to say Subotic & Hummels. Tall, talented, young, know each other, not French ().

Don't know much about Samba.

So that means we nearly signed Alonso, we nearly signed Schwarzer, we nearly signed Reina and we nearly signed Samba.

And I remember when we used to take the piss outta the Spuds for things like that.

Get the fucking turnip out NOW :banghead:
