A single joint of cannabis raises the risk of schizophrenia by more than 40 per cent, a disturbing study warns.
The Government-commissioned report has also found that taking the drug regularly more than doubles the risk of serious mental illness.
sorry olgit, but i stopped here. also daily mail is the sort of newspaper that writes that we are signing sebastian frey and karim benzema every year.

when i mean scientific material, i mean reading the scientific article, with access to how he got the results and if possible an e-mail address for you to discuss with the guy who wrote it. that's how science works and we should not take anything as the truth unless we have info like that on our hands.

we could spend years here showing articles in favour or against legalizing marijuana, i have a 'favourites tab' on my google chrome at home with over 50 pages of important and intelligent people like bill clinton saying that not legalizing is madness if that's what you want. it's a matter of what's the position of the government. and i'm sorry, but that's something where the UK has stopped in time many many years ago. even the USA who started the fucking thing in first place are slowly going back, with many states now allowing use for those who need it for medical reasons (yeah, right   )

there's a very good film called smokescreen, directed by a brazilian, where you see some actual scientists and nobel-winning economists discussing the idea, it's worth a good look. i'm only managing to find it in portuguese though, if i find the english version i'll post here.

i still have access to the articles from the university where i graduated from, i can't offer you though 'cause it's all in portuguese as well :(

for some firm information from a Harvard study.
"Teens who smoke pot at risk for later schizophrenia, psychosis"

that's the headline. and who can argue with that? now let me give you some other good ones:

"Teens who start smoking cigarettes earlier have a lot more chance to have lung and throat cancer"

"The earlier you start drinking, the higher the odds you'll end up killing someone by drunk driving"

"Teens that start their sexual lives too young may not be mature enough and are more prone to get STDs"

so, what should we do? control a little better what our teenagers do, or simply prohibit alcohol, weed, cigar and sex? :rubchin:

Youre right mate but because those other things are legal it doesnt make it right to legalise weed!!! In theory you shoyuld ban the other things as well not legalise everything because they are as dangerous

I never really smoked any 'erb, but then I used to catch a head rush from cigarettes so quickly gave up both.

I will add one thing regarding the harder drugs.

Cocaine fucking rules.

That is all. 8)

That's ok mate. I'll just stick it through that excellent Google translator.

Did you have a look at the Harvard study link I posted? Fairly conclusive facts in there.

I'm not going to argue the toss with anyone. Just saying as I see it.

There is a young lady who is very close to me who has had her life fucked up by (in my opinion) cannabis. There is no history of mental illness anywhere in her family. She smoked skunk in her teens. My opinion is obviously going to be shaped by that.

where's the sense there, flash?

there are substances A, B, C. "A" is the only one forbidden. "A" is also the one that causes the least ammount of deaths directly and indirectly and causes the smallest addiction of them all. still, "B" and "C" are allowed because of historic facts more than anything else, like real scientific studies. and also because an american never used the prohibition of "B" and "C" to get elected (which is the ONLY reason why marijuana is forbidden in the whole world).

however, you only use substances B and C, so fuck A, it's already forbidden anyway? that's only 'cause you don't use "A" anymore mate.

but the day they forbid you to use beer, you'll come knocking at other people's doors saying "hey, i want my beer back, i was doing nothing wrong!!, c'mon legalize beer again".

we, unfortunetaly, only stop to think and maybe do something about things when it's something that involves us directly. that's why we shrug our shoulders at all the problems of the world, unfortunately... fuck marijuana, i don't smoke it, it's for losers! but i want to see the day they mess up with the drugs YOU use!

and the thing is that there's nothing more horrible than seeing someone throw their lives away because of any sort of addiction. i met a guy who would often steal his wife's perfumes do drink it :? he was such an alcoholic that by the end of his life (he obviously died with a liver problem) he would drink a bottle of pure alcohol (actually 92% alcohol and 8% water, one pint). he was a top lad, loved football, i had many great chats with him. he also considered dennis bergkamp as one of the best footballers ever, so there you can see he was a top man. he died aged 38, leaving a wife and a young daughter.

whatever your view on drugs is, drug addiction is horrible and we should always be doing our best to make those numbers low as they can get.

i just think that using marijuana as a scapegoat is not fair at all.

Fucking hell bG that was like reading one of USMartin's posts

There is pretty good evidence that it can cause mental health problems for some users. Like i say alcohol might be worse in different ways but because it is legal it doesnt means we should legalise weed. My uncle is an alcoholic and has fucked his family away from him, my mum helps as much as she can, in his case i wish alcohol was illegal too. His life and my mums would be much better for it

Im pretty sure it wont be legalised in Britain any time soon but what does it matter anyway? Its piss easy to get hold of if you want to get it and the penalties for being in posession are fuck all so what does it matter it's legal in all but name pretty much

i tried reading my post again and now not even I can understand it anymore

maybe that's a proof that weed does fuck with your brains in the end!!!

good that's easy in the UK mate. people get arrested with one spliff in their hands here in brazil, or if you have enough money on yourself to bribe the policeman you can get away with over a kilo, easy. all depends on your luck and on the policeman's mood. but believe me, going to a brazilian prison is not the kind thing anyone would enjoy.
