world player of the year

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

I'm sorry but that just isn't true.

In the past 12 months;

Kaka': (Almost single handedly at times) won the Champions League with/for Milan

Ronaldo: Played a huge part in United winning the league, almost the FA Cup and almost the Champions League and is playing a huge part in them being second right now.

Messi: Admittedly not the best year for Barca last term, but all you have to do is watch (and I mean actually watch) some of the stuff he plays to find that it is he who is running that team at the moment. Plenty of people in Spain are calling him the best player in the world, and although he isn't (in my opinion) his goals and assists record speaks for itself (off the top of my head).

Cesc: Only really started scoring goals in the past few months and although he clearly is a phenomenal footballer, he needs to do it a bit more on the big stage for him to be considered. He hasn't been playing all that well (recently) for Spain and he needs to carry on being as instrumental for us as the others are being for their teams if he's going to get a look in.

I'd love to see Cesc in that three and he is quite possibly that no 4. But Kaka is brilliant, Messi is phenomenal and around the same age as Cesc and whatever we think of Ronaldo as a person you can't deny his ability to play and entertain. But it's also true you have to do something on the big stage which is partly why Thierry never won it - Arsenal were not loved by the media either in 2002-4 - even though he overwhelmingly should have at least once - and I think that did ultimately affect TH14's career.

Kaka will surely win it.

Do they pick a World Team of the Year??

Well Cesc should be be in that, and based on last season's form Mart Poom should be the keeper. A season long clean sheet in the PL and CL!!! :lol:

Agree with TS, Cesc's not at the level of Kaka, Ronaldo and Messi just yet. I haven't followed Spain closely but I think there have been games in the last year when Cesc didn't make the first team. Difficult to be named the world's best when that happens.

Kaka is the winner and deservingly so in my book. Some of ye though need to have a reality check if ye honestly believe that at this stage of his career cesc should be up there in the top 3. Cesc is an outstanding player for his age and could easily go on to be one of the best footballers in the world but he has some way to go yet. I can never agree with the Gooners who claim that henry should have won the award while at our club - how many times has he been poor in the really big games not just for us but for france too ? Again I am not doubting the mans ability but while in our goldfish bowl he might have been the dogs nuts, in the bigger world he was just a bit short. Of course it doesnt help when you play with a club that has yet to step up to the top level in europe,sells their best players for a packet of crisps and a mars bar,is incapable of attracting star players and has a board that is more worried with balance sheets than squad size and quality but thats another days work and I wont revisit that right now :wink:

I agree with Cesc not yet being a contender for such awards but lets not forget what Ronaldo was like at 20. A bagfull of skills with no end product. Cesc is twice the player that Ronaldo was at 20.

Ronaldo is 22...so 2 yrs older than fabregas... and at 22 , ronaldo was taking Englamd apart in the world cup, and humiliating your team at wembley...even though you won on penaltys, the world and his wife witnessed a display that was phenomenal.....

.... however cesc is a very honest player and Ronaldo will always carry the tag, like many good players, of being a diving, cheating shitbag.
