I'm lost for words. Arteta's a miss eh ?
I suggest people may have 'missed' every game since the lad joined.
FFS people forget about the fact that he isn't Cesc....he's been consistent in every game so far. I hate Wengerisms but the guy is definitely 'efficient' in everything he does. Calming influence in the middle, rarely gives the ball away (certainly in comparison to Ramsey and Song) and has a decent workrate.
I sincerely hope that people don't start turning on this guy due to the departing players and by way of comparison.
Summer 2011 - Who was the best signing Arsenal made?
SteveO I see your point and yes he ain't a Cesc replacement but...when you go from Cesc to THAT and on top you're charged 6.5% for it it's a kick in the gonads. For real. Arteta looks like a Spanish Denilson in this team to me, there's a reason why despite all the rumours he's never been approached by a single big club during all his time at Everton? He passes sideways a lot.
I agree not his fault, we needed a Goetze or Hazard and ended up with Arteta/Song. Problem is Thong is shit and then you need more creativity, and you get Arteta who is a bit slow, passing it sideways. In terms of what Arsenal need Arteta isn't good enough imo. Forget Cesc, Arteta isn't half as good as Nasri!

first 11?
szcz -
8/10 still inexperienced, but v.promising
gibbs
6/10 still got it all to prove
verm
8/10 looks quality - but still to prove over several seasons
merteacker
7/10 should be quality, experienced, but whether he can adapt fully to prem remains to be seen
sagna
8/10 dependable
arteta
7/10 alright
song
7/10 decent, but no more
gervinho
6/10 not convinced at all
walcott/arshavin
6.5/10 horribly inconsistent
wilshere
8.5/10 looks a great player already
RVP
9/10 but how long can he stay away from injuries?
Average- 7.4
Subs: ramsey 6.5/10
rosicky 7/10
diaby 7/10
chamakh 6.5/10
koescielny 7/10
I could see RVP, SZCZ, Verm, Wilshere, Sagna and possibly Mertesacker in a future title challenging team. The other half of our first team - not so much.

to be honest i agree with most of this, not sure about the luzhny commentgoonersid wrote:None have looked that impressive, however.
I thought Jenkinson played a little better on Sunday and certainly won't be found wanting on effort.
Santos though lacking mobility, looks a no nonesense full back. (reminds me a bit of luzhny) Mertersacker is better than anything else we have currently available.
Benayoun looks a good bench player and I reckon will score some late goals coming off the bench.
Ox, we haven't seen enough to judge.
Arteta hasn't looked great.
Gervinho has been the biggest disappointment. (be honest he's been shite)
Park has been bought to sell shirts.
I can't believe you're making a comparison like this. Why don't you put a poll up here then asking who we'd rather see in the centre of our midfield - Arteta or Denilson. The guy is fucking streets ahead of that useless little tosser.Babatunde wrote:SteveO I see your point and yes he ain't a Cesc replacement but...when you go from Cesc to THAT and on top you're charged 6.5% for it it's a kick in the gonads. Perhaps ask yourself the question why Arteta has suddenly been less attack minded than he was at Everton.
Anything to do with us consistently playing 1 central striker meaning that half the time, he has a heavily marked RvP as his sole attacking outlet ahead of him regardless of whether its Barca away or Bolton at home ?
Anything to do with us having him paired up alongside novices like Ramsey, Frimpong and Coquelin...or in front of never will be's like Song.
I wanted us to sign the guy 2 or 3 years ago. He's a serious player - one of the top half a dozen midfielders in the PL, proven over six seasons. He was the driving force behind getting Everton into the CL and competing in the top half.
Now, if the Self Harmer is so consistently inflexible in his tactics and chooses to openly weaken the rest of the midfield in the window, then that's a different problem.
I think Arteta has been 8/10 since joining us. Catapulted straight into a crumbling midfield and asked to perform in all the big games, which for my money he has done far more admirably than Ramsey, Song or anyone else who has been rotated in central midfield this year.
Give the guy a fucking chance please.

I see your point, but why not go for Hazzard or Gotze, (who is the bollocks with wilshere in my fifa carrer) and resort to Arteta and Benayoun.SteveO 35 wrote:I can't believe you're making a comparison like this. like Baba (if you dont mind) I too think arteta aint up to scratch, mainly because were compairing to cesc but still, the moeny was/should have been there to atleast get 1 big, influencial signing. unless he turns into some sort of midfield masterclass (unlikely) ill always see him as just another average, well paid mercenry filling the gaps
6.5% for what?
