i can't work this bloke out, came here with a big reputation, a bit like Gotze and Hazard have at the moment.
started well and scored some great goals, who will ever forget the 4-4 at Anfield
but since then has rapidly gone down hill, he has been out the team this season and surely today was a good chance to show Wenger why he should be ahead of Gervinho and Walcott
but did fuck all again,

Arshavin is a creator and scorer of goals from a central attacking midfield position. Out on the wing, he is expected to take a man on down the outside and beat him for pace and get a cross in.
Arshavin is never going to do those things in a million years. He doesn't have the pace to go round a player and he's not and never has been a winger. Neither is he particularly good at crossing.
If Wenger had played him in his best position from the start of his Arsenal career, we'd have a player on our hands. Unfortunately it's too late now.
Not excusing the diabolical performance today and of late, but on the other hand, even the best players in football history would have been shit out of position. How good would Zidane have been if he'd been played wide left?

Disagree. It's not about what position suits him, it's about commitment and work rate. This bloke doesn't give a shit about Arsenal. He'd rather be anywhere else. Whenever the 4th official holds up the board he's the first one to check, he couldn't wait to be subbed off. The only bit of running you see from him is when his number is up and is being substituted!worthing_gooner wrote:Arshavin is a creator and scorer of goals from a central attacking midfield position. How come he was so good when he first came? He was playing on the wing then too? Simple. He had to prove himself so he tried his best. Then he scored the quadruple at Anfield and thought he doesn't need to work anymore and lived off that performance for the rest of his Arsenal career.
He's been given too many easy rides since. Whenever he puts in a stinker there is always someone coming out with the 'remember the Liverpool game' line. At last people are now starting to see him for what he is: a little mercenary *word censored* who's here for the money only and doesn't want to play for Arsenal.

Played in "His" position or not, there is no excuse to not track back and cover and dig in to help your team out. Too many times IMO he couldnt be bothered to get back and the management 2 never got off their arse once to yell at him. With soft touch management such as that its no wonder he can appear to do what he wants..
I think Arshavin and Chamakh have lost interest.
Chamakh knows he won't get in the team until Van Persie goes (Wenger pretty much admitted that Chamakh has lost belief that he'll get in the team) and Arshavin hasn't got the fight in him to battle for a place in the side.
Yeah, maybe Arshavin has been played out of position (although in the first few months he played left wing in a 4-4-2 and was fucking awesome!) but he also has had a free role on many occasions and still hasn't been brilliant.
Maybe he's just the type of guy who needs to have a team built around him and accept his flaky performances. Problem is, in a highly competitive league, you can't do that - maybe for Zenit that was possible?
It's a shame, but mentally he's all at sea. I don't even think he's all that fit either.... and hasn't been for some time; which possibly tells you a lot about his focus and professionalism.
I really think Fergie or Mourinho would have got shot of him a couple of years ago, but Wenger doesn't seem to have that killer instinct. The Adebayor situation, which Wenger allowed to fester for months and months, was even worse!
That said, apart from the dubious focus and commitment of Arshavin and Chamakh, it's much much better now that Eboue, Bendtner, Vela and Denilson have FINALLY left.
