As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Maybe 8th is a bit of an exageration, but without RVP in the form of his life, where do you think we would have finished this season? I know it's hypothetical, but I would like to know your honest opinion?
for the reasons given, i think 4th or 5th.
I think we would of coped somehow - one up front, tighter games etc . who knows had chamakh played every week maybe he would of got his form back, or may be not. Park same same - who know what he's be like with 8-10 games in a month under his belt.
i think we definately would of finished behind the spuds, but been a lot closer to Chelsea & Liverpool than we were. They were so poor this year i think we would of still been above them and likely behind Newcastle.
"Without RVP", I will simply exclude the "worldies" that he scored, which Chamakh and Park or anyone else IMO wouldn't have.
Winner home to Everton - Minus 2 pts
Winner away to Norwich - Minus 2 pts
Winner away v Liverpool - Minus 2 pts
First RVP Goal v Norwich - Minus 1 pt
Total - Minus 7 pts = we finish 6th on 63 pts without RVP.

Our new stadium is built.
Our staff structure and marketing and commercial position is globalised.
It has been underperforming, but it has undergone the big change from smaller scale it was at Highbury.
Our squad needs improvement, and we took a huge gamble on strikers this season, but we have a chance to add to the squad.
We have shortcomings, but we are no longer like Liverpool a club stuck in the 20th century, and are moving slowly forward.
We just have to be patient for a new manager; or see if Bould can somehow tighten our defence.
On the contrary their global brand is light years ahead of ours. As you were......
"On the other hand, they [Liverpool] remain handicapped compare to the top three revenue generators, more than £40 million less than Arsenal and Chelsea (both around £225 million) and an incredible £150 million behind traditional rivals Manchester United (£331 million). That’s a significant competitive disadvantage."
They may sell more shirts overseas, and do have a good commercial revenue compared to ours, which as I said has been underperforming; but our global brand is now growing, and we have new deals to make in 2014.
But look at total revenue!
Liverpool are lagging behind as a club and as they get further and further away from their last title win it can hardly help them.
The new Owners bought the club at a very cheap price 300 mill and no debt ,compared to Kroenke's $560 million for the balance of sharees to bring him to 56 percent plus whatever he paid for the first lotand a lot of debt .
They have spent big but have little in return for their money ,in the US that means u get fired.
I think they made the right decision but don't expect that at the self sustaining bowl !
Where has this without RVP argument come from? Its such nonsense.
Where would City have been without Aguero or United Rooney, where would we have been with City squad?
You could be here all day.
We are nowhere near Liverpool, the set up of the club has not changed, we moved to a new ground and are adapting, granted some are spitting their dummies out because its hard to take but the club is still there or there abouts.
Sometimes you got to take a step back to move forward, Liverpool just keep taking steps back and are now in a situation where the fans got their wish by getting Dalglish in for Hodgson and are now seeing the results.
The moral of the story is be careful what you wish for, the Liverpool owners showed a complete lack of leadership by allowing the fans to dictate who is manager there, they got their wish of their man and money and went backwards, Wenger is no saint let me make that clear but he is no Dalglish and we are no Liverpool.

Are you serious? City back up strikers Tevez Dzeko and Balotelli Utds Welbeck Berbatov and Hernandez. We had Park and Chamakh.Since Nov 2010 Chamakh has 2 league goals Without RVP this season we would have finish 7th.

Yes I am serious, its stupid to base an argument on ifs and buts, he wasn't injured and we finished 3rd. That's all you need to know now its over.
Just heard a stat on the radio, in 8 years he's started 200 games, 200 games, get a grip.
Yes it is hypothetical to gauge where we might have finished without rvp but nobody can deny that we were dependent on 1 player far more than any of our other rivals therefore it stands to reason that without him we would have been seriously seriously fcuked. Yes somebody else would have stepped up and scored a few more goals but we have nobody in the squad capable of carrying the team with that many goals so stop deluding yourself thinking otherwise. Without a shadow of a doubt this club has been successful pre rvp and the club is always bigger than 1 man BUT this team is dependent on 1 man and without him we are a very very average team and it is a shocking indictment that the people running this club have allowed a team to be built solely around a player with his injury record but I am just thankful he remained fit this season
Gunnersaurus wrote:You know City would have probably been in a relegation fight without Joe Hart and United would be in league one without Fergie.
If fergie fcuks off will manure be able to attract another top manager to their club to take his place ? If rvp (our last remaining recognised globally world class player) fcuks off how many top drawer players will be lining up to join the club ? That my friend is the difference.......perception from the outside can be everything and a club losing top players year after year doesnt send positive signals out
Im sorry Augie its retarded logic, to think that without him no one would score and the results could not be bettered is beyond lunacy, last season, when injured, Chamakh scored something like 9 in 12, the team will create chances and someone else will score, its not as simple as take player A out and we play with 10 men which is all that argument is based on.
Granted its not healthy to rely on one player but that is not the issue, the issue is stupid logic of making an.argument based on him not playing and what might have been.

Read my initial post again......I stated in that post that I too believe that somebody would step up and score a few more goals but I still do not believe that we have anybody in this squad to take on the full burden of rvp's goals - lets be honest we dont have another goal poacher in the squad
I agree, we don't but we've been down this road before when a big player leaves, someone will become the main part of the team.
Don't get me wrong, I want him to stay and think its shocking how he has had to carry this team BUT like with Cesc this team was set up to play to his strengths and two years ago you wouldn't have called it when he could barely play half a season, in reality he has given us a season and a half of being Henryesque, the club has got on with him and will have to without if need be.
