Arsenals Reputation

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Our reputation is the West Ham United of European football. We should just put a sign up in the big gap in the Clock End corner above the away fans (yes the one that is bare after the 2005 FA Cup) saying "Arsene's Academy - feeder club to the stars"

That'll show those Chelsea fans

Our rep amongst most other fans, is we as fans, are a bunch of moany bastards. I read recently a Spurs fan saying how he can't understand Arsenal fans seeming hatred of every player that plays for us. Honestly, even this thread has a ridiculous slant to it. Arsenal are well respected in World football. We are fans so see things how we see them, but do you think a Barcelona fan gives a fuck about Wenger persisting with Abou Diaby? No, they look at the general view of the club, which is one run very well with a big history.

To be fair though rigsby, other teams fans wont have seen a fraction of what we have seen of diaby (and I am only using him as an example), wont watch wenger getting raped tactically by some many inferior teams and wont be paying the highest ticket prices for a club that fails to invest properly in their team year after year as cash continues to accumulate
Fans of clubs in europe probably do respect us but they certainly wont fear us - like a lot of fans they are living in the memories of a great team playing fast flowing beautiful football but the modern day reality is vastly different. They might still marvel at our wonderful ball retention but at the very same time us Gooners will be going ballistic at yet another tippy tappy move with no penetration  They will look at how brilliant it is that wenger can see potential in young players like cesc and develop it into world class talent that every big club in europe covets whilst we look at it as another player looking to fulfill his potential elsewhere as we continue down the road as a feeder club for other clubs.

Basically what I am saying is that it is all down to perception and objectives and we as fans of this club want the best for us and for me the best means the club doing everything it can to bring success back to us all

The question was on reputation. Arsenal are well respected.

About the fear thing. I would say most teams in Europe would not want to face Arsenal in the CL. The name is what strikes fear.

Like I give a shit what Spurs fans think?

Have you been on Glory, Glory - they all wanted Redknapp out when they dropped below us, had a thread saying they would rather have Corluka than Kyle Walker after one bad game, and generally moan like fuck about everything and anything.

That isn't the point. We are supposedly held up as the biggest club in London

I was pointing out one member of a fan base who pointed this out, and I agreed with him. He's right, we do have a rather self hating strand amongst our fanbase. Its rather odd.

1 in every 4 Spurs fans want Redknapp out - yep 25% of their wonderful fans want to fire a man who took them over when they had 2 points a couple of months into a season and has delivered them two fourth place finishes and 5th. They have a poll on their website - so if they hate the best manager they've had in 50 odd years I don't think they can do too much finger pointing.

They have been renowned for being moaners that turn on their own players long before we started getting pissed off with the likes of Eboue

What ahs this to do with what I said? Just like this forum, that is a very small part of their fanbase. And wanting the manager out is not the same as hating your team. I don't care people calling for Wenger's head, or even questioning a players ability. But their seem to be an air of self defeating and loathing around Arsenal at times which I do not like

I had this over the weekend. "Chelsea are the Kings of London - Un-debatable"

Well, I took the bait and had to point out that 4 league titles (of which 3 were in the last Abramavic ten years!) versus our 13 plus 8 (?) FA Cups versus our 10, still makes us the Kings of London! FACT! :barscarf:

Champions of Europe? This year, yes. Form is temporary, but history, class and trophies are permanant!

(Note: Don't do a Liverpool and say "come back when you have 13 titles!")

We don't hate the team - we hate some of the players in the team!! And if you think the sentiment of disliking one's own players is exclusively the preserve of Arsenal fans, then you really need to get better informed.  :banghead: :banghead:

I did not say this. I said it was more present at Arsenal. Of course fans are unhappy with players at all clubs, but we seem to actively hate them. I'm guilty of it myself at times, its not me judging everyone else. But we are some of the most negative out there.

Recently sure. But up until Jose took over Real were getting beaten by everyone come the last 16. They were still feared though because of the name.
