Wenger brought him in as understudy to Sagna and knew that Jenko was going to be thrown in the deep end.
It all happened sooner rather than later but the boy has grabbed his opportunity and looks better each game.

It must need such strong self belief to go out there with so little experience. Hats off to Carl. I hope he continues to improve at the current rate.
The lad has come on leaps and bounds and I'm pleased for him. This is the flip side argument to all the defenders of Giroud at the moment who apparently is under more pressure than any other player to walk the face of the planet

Here we have a lad who just over a year ago had played 8 games in League One, replacing possibly the best full back in the PL, thrown to the wolves by gormless Wenger for an 8-2 mauling at United which sees him get sent off.......and he still comes back for more and never goes hiding. Playing at the club of his dreams, he must pinch himself every day he comes into training. Will he be a Gooner legend? Probably not - but it won't be for the want of trying. Rather that than some mega money misfit who can barely rise a smile or a hand to the crowd skulking around like he'd rather be anywhere else despite the fact his current employers have given him a contract and a platform to play at a level that no other club of any stature would ever do.

Fair play to Jenkinson

I am concerned that calling him up to england squad too early wont help him though

Jenkinson deserves to have a shot at keeping his place when Sagna comes back. Important not to get carried away and Sagna is the best RB around for my money so should really be starting, but if Jenkinson is playing well there (as he has been) then he should continue to do so until Sagna looks like he's back at his best or Jenkinson loses some form.

Jenks..Top Gooner..apart from the odd stray pass across the back four he is looking real solid this season.
His vast improvement is giving us real strength in this position..a good back up for the brilliant Sagna.

Jenkinson will keep Sagna out of the team in my opinion..a lot will disagree with that but i think jenkinsons better going forward and you cant really say he hasnt done his job defensively this season either.

Still worries me defensively. :?

But he is good going forward, gives 100%, and hopefully can tighten up his defensive game. Great interview with him over the weekend. A Gooner that just loves the fact he is now playing for us. I really really hope he succeeds and becomes an Arsenal legend, but for me the jury is still out... fingers crossed though. 8)

He's done quite well so far but needs to continue to learn and progress.

Agree, but the jury isnt out for me - he will make it, his desire to play for Arsenal will make sure he is. A lot fo work to do of course, and Sagna is the better RB as it stands - but he will get there.

Top lad and developing into a very tidy RB. Seems to have settled now.

It's great to see Jenkinson playing so well, but part of me thinks that this will almost inevitably lead to Sagna being sold in the summer. :(

I've 3 reasons for thinking this...

1. We ALWAYS sell our best players. It seems we need - or try - to balance the books, and in recent years that means selling first team players. We're running out of players to sell, so perhaps Sagna is the next man in line? after all, surely a United, Citeh or PSG will jump at the chance?

2. Wenger can then trot out the line about Jenkinson needing to be first choice or we risk "killing him" or something just as nutty

3. Sagna's disgruntled comments recent coupled with the fact he hasn't been offered a new contract....

hmm.... :rubchin:

Sorry to put on negative spin on Jenkinson's success

Carl Jenkinson is quickly becoming my favourite Arsenal player. There is clear evidence that him and his family are Arsenal throgh and through and the stone pictured on the thread is further evidence of that. He always plays with his heart on his sleeve and his effort can never be faulted. Improving all the time and I believe he can continue to improve and will become England's Number 1 RB and will be for years to come. Another unknown youngster set to be made into a great player by AW :barscarf:

It's been a great start from Jenkinson and I hope he has a big career for us but I'm looking forward to seeing Sagna back dominating that right hand side for a couple of seasons yet.
