As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.
If we could have got Dennis to get on a plane we could've done it Ba Baracus style i reckon we would probably have 2or3 Champions Lge titles to our name
Champions of Europe for me i couldn't sleep for a couple of nights before the game & certainly couldn't sleep after it.Just thinking about how the game panned out made the defeat worse so close......
Like others have posted we actually did have better teams between 02-04 but being cup football it really is wafer thin margins between winning & losing. You need a slice of luck to win it look at last year the club that won it could & should of gone out in all of the ko rounds.
The Invincibles were brilliant & for me such a underated achievement had it of been done by one of the northwest clubs they would still be banging on about it now that team never got the praise it deserved & the style it was done in.The Invincibles was a tremendous domestic campaign but would of loved to see us conquer Europe.
Still it's a fair argument & for me we are the biggest club in Europe not to of won it yet.
To make any kind of "History" in the Champions League, you would have to win it six or seven times to be considered a great club in Europe.
But The Invincibles?
Only been done twice. In England. Ever.
All very very true.
But I don't even count the first time - it was about 5 teams in the league that played 10 minutes a half, stopped for a smoke break and a quick spot of buggery with the house servants, and then half an hour's tiddlewinks!

Only once in a 38 game season.
I voted invincibles but its very hard to decide. I want the Champions League because it's a gaping hole in our honour's list but I must say I'm not overly fussed by this not being the first London club to win it lark. What I am concerned about (although I doubt krankee and his chimp share it) is winning it ourselves and overtaking them.
Spurs were the first club to win the double but I don't lose a millisecond of sleep over it because we did it three times.

The Champions League without a shadow of doubt - when Man City eventually win it we will be firmly in the shadow of all the big clubs in this country that have won the thing. Our chance has been and gone. In 2004 it was on a plate against a Chelsea side that in those days couldn't buy a win against us, with the prospect of Monaco/Porto to come. There will never be a better chance for us. These days we're a million miles away from winning the thing.
The Coach of the Decade - a man that in 14 years of trying with us has got us past the quarter final stage twice - a stat I find as depressing as he finds 'the x years of consecutive Group Stage qualification' impressive

Huzzah!!
Ah yes, you omit mention of the half time telegram from the East India Company, read out to the watching crowd of 20,000 to inform them of the latest developments in the Khyber Pass, plus the weekly competition of "Most rickety legs" for which the prize was a tin of Gentleman's Relish and a jar of figs in aspic.

Do you want to know something which now seems totally bizarre.........I wasn t overly traumatised in paris in 2006 I was full sure that we were witnessing the rise of a superpower and fully expected us to be proper challengers in the coming seasons I never really expected to win it tbh and I was just proud that we had reached our first champs league final and I realise now that was the type of loser mentality that is rampant in our club nowadays
I think if I had been asked that night I would probably have said that the cup final defeat to the victims in cardiff stunned me more - we were by far the dominant team that day but henry had (another) of his big game nightmares and that short arsed scouse c**t robbed us and sent us home empty handed The sense of shock at the bus depot afterwards was think in the air

I remember walking out of the Stade de France that night and meeting my old man whose first words were 'thank god we finished above Tottenham' which seemed scant consolation but the fact remains that we'd had the euphoria of the final day at Highbury going to plan. That also seems a small time comment I know but I was on a high from that and Paris, as you say, was an achievement in itself. Back then I was also certain that we'd be back for more, especially once it swiftly got confirmed that Henry was staying and I felt that Fabregas and others were waiting to come through and drive us on to a new era of success. I always felt that 'one day we'd win the Champions League', but now I feel like its a distant pipe dream and have the same expectations of winning as the fans of Montpellier and Cluj probably have at the start of the competition.
I actually felt more physically fucking sick after losing the League Cup final to Birmingham because I dared to dream for a minute that we might start to return to the era of succeeding in the cups even if the League was beyond us, and that there might be some opportunities to experience winning at Wembley again. I've never heard a large group of Gooners as silent as that walk back to Wembley Park station - honestly it was eerie. I think the realisation fell on many that day that this manager will never ever win us another trophy
Anyone can win CL, Chavs proved that last year. The Invincible era was an experience not likely to be repeated. 38 games without a loss, that's incredible.

But every superpower club in Europe has won the CL. You can never be considered a big club in European terms unless you actually conquer Europe. We are always on the outside looking in.The Invincibles means a lot in England but to gain respect all over Europe we have to win Europe's biggest prize.Bergkamp Henry and Vieira would have all swapped an unbeaten season to win a CL with Arsenal
Utd's treble or our Invincible season?.I know which one i would choice
I love the fact we went unbeaten and wouldnt swap it, i have always wanted the European Cup and youre never a top Club in world terms without winning IMO.
