Re: Cashley 100 caps
The main reason he left was because of the club's stalling on a contract, they never learn and alot of this is down to the *word censored* that is Wenger! It's also sums up Wenger that even when it was obvious that Cole was going to leave he even found time to put him in the CL final team, showing just what a complete arsehole Wenger is (and now he's doing the same with Sagna)

Spot on. Congratulations to Ashley on his 100th cap. Well deserved.franksav63 wrote:The main reason he left was because of the club's stalling on a contract, they never learn and alot of this is down to the *word censored* that is Wenger! If only the vast majority of our current crop had his desire we might actually win something one day.
Re: Cashley 100 caps
I don't think anyone can deny that hasn't been a good player for club and country, and is one of the very few players of his generation that can claim to be world class. He has been, without doubt. Forget Rooney, fat Frank and the rest of the so-called Golden Generation, Cole is the only one who has been at that level.
But he is a *word censored* and, rightly or wrongly, that will always cloud my mind when I think of Cole and his career. I think, as a fan, you have every right to expect players to conduct themselves properly and not behave like a wanker.

Totally agree with this.northbank123 wrote:To what extent do these players really deserve to be known as "England legends"? Yes, many have picked up a fantastic number of caps but bearing in mind how many cack sides there are even at international tournaments not reaching a semi-final in any of their international careers is piss-poor.
Look at the collective achievements of Beckham, Lampard, Gerrard and Cole at club level - a couple of CL titles, plenty of domestic titles and more domestic cups than you can shake a stick at. At international level they've not got near doing anything.
If your legacy is a free-kick in the qualifiers against a dross Greek side then that says it all. These players have been part of the biggest group of bottlers in international football over the last decade and a half.
I'm patriotic. But I don't give a flying fuck about the England team. Apart from a mild interest when Arsenal players are involved. I could never bring myself to cheer on the likes of Terry, Rooney, Cole and various other twats.
Re: Cashley 100 caps
I know it won't be popular on here but I love Ashley Cole, chuffed to bits to see him get to his 100th cap, just a pity a few more of the players didn't have his ability and commitment to the England cause. Probably the only England player of the last god knows how many years who can actually have a realistic claim to be the best in the world in his position. As for him as a person he seems to get a hell of a lot of stick but I'm not convinced he's anywhere near as bad as some (Terry, Barton etc), he gets a lot more stick than he deserves, good professional and comes across as a decent enough bloke when interviewed

Like I say, I know gooners will hate him, to be a "lifelong gooner" and get the chance to play for your team when its shit hot and then fuck them off for extra money is something that wouldn't be forgiven so I can understand people here not exactly singing his praises, but fans of other clubs who abuse him need to get a grip

Simple - the reason he is hated by other fans as wel as those from Arsenal he was banging, got married to, then broke the heart of 'our Cheryl'.

Not having a pop at you here Mackem (and I know I'm generalising your post), but I never understand this line of defence.safcftm wrote:officepest wrote:Read the above statement and then answer with as many of the responses that apply to you:safcftm wrote:I know it won't be popular on here but I love Ashley Cole, chuffed to bits to see him get to his 100th cap, just a pity a few more of the players didn't have his ability and commitment to the England cause. i really do genuinely wonder why people hate the lad so much though. I can understand Arsenal fans hating him of course but it seems like fans all over hate the bloke but I actually don't know what he's done thats so bad. Seems to have cheated on his geordie slapper lass a few times which, whilst not nice, is hardly unheard of for blokes all over the country. Was caught speeding, again, hardly a hanging offence. Swore at a police man, bit daft but it happens. The worst one seems to be shooting someone with an air rifle, thats twattish like but its the only really bad thing he seems to have done. Gerrard has done worse, Terry has done worse, Barton has done worse, Lee Hughes has certainly done worse, there's loads of players who have done much worse than Cole has ever done but for some reason everyone goes on about Ashley.

Obviously, we Gooners hate him because all he ever did was talk up being a Gooner from the terraces that made good at The Arsenal (alluding to being the modern Charlie George) and then he fucked us over £5K a week extra. The usual one dimensional Anti-Wenger argument will be raised but it doesn't wash in this case - Cuntley left over money and money alone but some people can't see past their hatred of Wenger and accept that. Cuntley had secret meetings touting himself to the chavs behind The Arsenal's back, proved he was a selfish lying little toe-rag by jumping ship over an extra £5K a week (how much fucking money does one need to play football at the club they supposedly love?) and then you add all the other stuff to this and you get a dirty little chav toe rag.
That's my reasons (and alot of Gooners' reasons) for hating the kúnt but I think Hlebby nailed the reason most other people hate him; he cheated on "English Rose" Cheryl She-Gazza Tweedy. Sad and embarrassing that a no talent bimbo can have such a huge cultural and social impact on people but hey that's modern retard society for ya!

Undoubtedly a great footballer but a total scumbag all the same.

Sorry bit confused here. WE, the Arsenal, shaft Ashley over £5 piddling K a week, yet Ashley is the problem in all this?
You make it sound as if £5K a week is nothing. Well if this is the case, why did our wonderful board at the time not pay this nothing amount. Then none of what followed would have occured.
And please stop the mantra of 'we Gooners hate him'. It simply is not the case that all Gooners hate him. Many of my mates think he is OK. They can see how we tried to take the piss in transfer negotiations, and we ended up the loser.
If we had kept Ashley, paid him properly, we would have won a couple of trophies in the last six years. Instead we have a squad of primarily losers that will never win anything.

Quote from Cashley saying how Rocky inspired him to be a footballer .

Cole was promised an amount, then backtracked by 5K.
The club messed up.
He was a good player, and we should have just paid him the extra cash.
Penny wise pound foolish.
Cole can argue he has had a glittering career though, and the truth is how much would he have won had he had stayed?
BUT...Cole had a good while left on his contract and could have tried to renegotiate a few months later, instead of those cringe-worthy public meetings with Chelsea staff.

Or, far more likely, is it just that you're so anti-Wenger and anti-board now that you'll align yourself with anybody who disagrees with them?
The club fucked up, no doubt. But to suggest Cole was justified in his actions is fucking bollocks. And people suggest that Cole 'saw what was coming', as if he and they knew in January 2005 that we were going to go the way we have.
