Just a quick hello! And say hello other newbies

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Just wanted to introduce myself as I have just joined your excellent Forum.

I have been reading posts on here for a few months but never took the time to join and share points of views and Arsenal stories.

Been an Arsenal fan since 1974 (Yep, I m quite old!) and enjoyed some really good times, and also some bad times.

For the younger members, my login name "Young Willy" is a reversal of the cult hero of the 70's and early 80's Willy Young! (Legend Centre Back!).

Thank you for having me on your Forum!

Willy!!
Welcome Willy, do you remember Young getting sent off against us the year before he joined us, I think he double kneed Stapleton in the back!!!
Thanks!
Dont actually remember that one. But now that you mention Stapleton, I was at the match v Man Utd when he played his first game against us! He got so much abuse for the whole game! "Your just a greedy ****, Stapleton!" Mind you, I remember it was 0-0 final score, but Statpleton was clean through in the last couple of minutes but his shot hit the post! Phew!
I think the game was 2-2.... yes, I remember that game well, it's loudest and most intimidating atmosphere I've ever witnessed at an Arsenal game... I was proud of the crowd that day!!!
Sorry, my mistake. I can just remember that the scores were level when Stapleton got clear. :)
Like you, I remember those days when the old Highbury was full. Somehow, they used to cram 63,000 people in that stadium and the atmosphere was unreal :barscarf:

Cashley's first game against us at The Conglomerates had quite the "atmosphere" I recall!

I watched a Big Match Revisited this week in which Willie played. I always thought he was a carthorse,
and I blamed him for us losing the Cup Final, but you're very welcome. Also, being born in 74 doesn't necessarily qualify you as old.

Welcome Willie, great memories back then - actually just briefly lessens the current torture we're going through this transfer window - thinking about how my devotion developed watching that 70s team :barscarf:

Hello Willy (and everyone else).
Reading this has prompted me to join and post some memories of Willie. I remember being in the supporters club just after he signed for us and there was genuine talk of a petition to get rid of him. However, it wasn't long before he won (most of) us over.
I had the yellow away shirt with the big cannon in the middle and his number (6) on the back ready for the '78 cup final, only for the club to change the shirt design for the match. I also sprayed my DMs, one yellow and one blue. How stupid I felt wearing them on the way home after that shite performance.
Not a stupid as my mate Big Kev (The Obese to give him his proper title). On the eve of the match he painted his brogues red and white, not allowing enough time for the paint to dry in between coats. Fancy wearing pink shoes to a cup final.
Anyway now that I've bitten the bullet and joined I will no doubt bore you in the future with memories going back to my first home game (West Brom) 1966. Now that was a trophy drought.
My login in name is taken from my first real Arsenal hero. The guy that scored the final goal in the 1970 Fairs Cup Final (still the greatest night ever in my opinion). Check out his goal against Man Utd that same season (runner up to George Graham's cracker against Palace in The Big Match Golden Goals).
Enough for now.
Regards
Jon
