I also say good luck to the Scots if they vote for independence. They are going to need it. Good luck with raising enough tax to pay for the free university places and free prescriptions which are denied to the English.

I'm also in favour of Welsh independence. And if Cornwall or the Isle of Wight want to break away then so be it.

We were all in favour of the breakup of the USSR. An oversized monstrosity governed by a vast array of relatively overpaid people who would fail in private business.

We now have a European union which suffers from exactly the same ills. And it's getting bigger and more unmanageable by the minute. The old Soviet Bloc countries are going to love it. The rest of us will be paying for it. In more ways than one.
