The difference in results this season

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Re: The difference in results this season

I have heard on numerous occasions this season that Arsenal have 'progressed' and that Stoke have ''evolved'' but I didn't see much evidence of either last Saturday.

The obvious improvement from Arsenal this season has been at the back where the amount of silly goals conceded to the weaker sides has declined. This was long overdue, which is strange because Wenger said after we lost 2-1 at Bolton in April 2010 (Fabregas' last game for Arsenal) that ''sorting out the defence was the easiest thing to do''.

this myth that our defence has improved...

last season with 10 games to go we had conceded 32 goals and this season 28.
last season we conceded just 5 more goals after that. If anyone thinks that we will conceed 9 goals or fewer in our 10 remaining PL matches this season then they are deluded

The Liverpool thrashing and City kind of distort it though. I think our def has improved but offensively we aren't good enough.

We've only scored 3+ on eight occasions. That isn't really good enough. The Scousers have scored 3+ on 15 occasions. Man City have done it on 13 occasions. Chelsea's defence is slightly better than ours, which accounts for them being top.

Yet Chelsea are top of the league and Giroud has more league goals than Eto'o, Torres and Ba put together.
