Eurovision Song Contest

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Thought song was a decent squad player, never as bad as he was made out to be. I think there is a very good centre back in there somewhere, was always decent in the air too - just his discipline was non-existent and it made him look very silly at times - but he did put in some very good performances over a few years too.

If he was at say a Sp*rs or an Everton he would be the best player in the side - Arsenal, Barca....he was always found out.

Says it all about his character that he went to Barca to sit on the bench though.

But, nah - I still love and respect Wenger for the great things he achieved for us 1998-2006. Just want him to leave. Now. Right now.

Getting past that, anyone that thinks he wasn't a bad player is either in serious need of mental counselling or needs to get off the drugs. At his best (which was seldom) he was average, most of the time he was appallingly shit. Couldn't run, couldn't pass beyond 5 yards, couldn't shoot, lunged in, gave away too many needless stupid free-kicks, had the turning circle of an oil tanker with one propeller... Jez DB will you get off the fence, if you think he was overrated just spit it out man! :-)

He wasnt a defensive midfielder ,but thats where wenger played him .
He actually looks good playing further upfield in an attacking role but he had the habit of going walkabouts and switching off during almost any game and with him and diaby in the team our shape was awful !

Im glad we sold him and never want him back but I feel that his demise was largely brought about by bieng forced to play in a position he couldnt !

You're right. He wasn't a defensive midfielder, nor an attacking midfielder and barely a footballer.

He didn't have the first touch, passing ability or vision to play upfield. He had no pace, no dribbling ability and no positional ability.

Something resembling a brain could have helped him be a DM and he did occasionally look OK at CB, but I still struggle to understand how he ever made so many games for us. A real sign of the demise of our team.

My abiding memory of this tool was him giving the ball away near our box in injury time to let Norwich equalize at the Grove after we went 3-2 up very late on. He was thick as pig shit.

Does anyone remember his debut (?) at Craven Cottage when he got booed by the travelling Gooners? He looked anything but a footballer. I remember thinking how in the name of fuck have we gone from Vieira to this *word censored* in the space of one summer.

Song was a decent player, at times. I think scouts from utd must be looking at a highlight real of him which could make him look far better than he is.

But not good enough for Arsenal, and certainly not good enough for Barcelona (who clearly bought him to be a CB).

Anybody don't like what I said:

bring it :box:
