I think given the opportunity he can displace the big drink of french piss, not because Wellbeck is top class but simply because he is a better option than Giroud.
I don't think Giroud would have scored either of the goals last night, he wouldn't have had the pace to keep up with the play for the first goal, but more crucially he wouldn't have had the composure to score the second. That is the biggest flaw in his game, when he is one on one with the keeper or is afforded time to pick his spot in the goal, he invariably fucks it up.
You only have to look at the many chances he has fluffed in these circumstances, alas, I expect Wenker to play Wellbeck out wide, so he won't get the chance to usurp Giroud.
