MARTIN JOL TALKING OUT HIS ARSENAL

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

I said it was a mixed area ,which Southgate is or was .
My delight is seeing Walthamstow almost half Red nowadays , in the 70's it was 99 pct them.
Mind you a lot of Walthamstow is now under Sharia Law ,I'm not sure what their thoughts on Football are .

I never drank there but there are a quite few of them around that area and in Stokey but I always
thought it was an Arsenal Pub .
Generally speaking and contrary to urban myth Spurs and Arsenal fans get in better than u think in Islington, particularly the Old School "firms" however they do have to find their own pubs to watch which are shall we say out of the way .
True. Was refering to the tube stop we used up the road.

Mate I have grown up lived and worked in the Southgate area. All you have to do is see the hundreds of fans that travel out on the tube during match days to know it is Arsenal hardcore (its nothing like that when the spuds play). The community is mainly English, Greek Cypriot, Jewish and Asian, most of them are Gooners including the Jews.

LOL at Sharia Law do you even know what it stands for. No doubt it has something to do with IS militants in your eyes.

Fuck me I am 60 and started at Highbury in 1964 and i cant honestly remember them ever SERIOUSLY competing for the title in my Arsenal following life. I can very vaguely remember them winning it early 60s. All black and white far away memories ( a bit like the President Kennedy assasination but older !!! )

I often use the Brownswood as a stop off on the way to the ground . As I have to drive can't spend too long in there but a pint or two before the match. It is now more of a restaurant pub but still gets a fair few Arsenal in on match days. Any of the other lot keep their heads down but only go in for the bookie next door. All football though has gone , no big screen or any reference to the games . In fact have been asked by the bar staff whether there was a game on.

south tottenham/seven sisters is largely gooner turf, I wouldn't feel weird walking about with arsenal clobber on, anywhere north and maybe I'd get the odd glance. southgate is definitley arsenal turf too.

In their defence though , they keep a good cellar and sell a good pint. Toilet's handy as well after a 2 hour drive.

In my Youth Tottenhams main support came from Tottenham ,Edmonton,Chingford,Walthamstow , then there were the mixed areas like Hornsey,Wood Green,Turnpike Lane, Southgate. Further out Hoddesdon,Broxbournbe,
in my youth, those areas were mainly West Ham - especially walthamstow and broxbourne. they hated the vermin more than we did.

Harlow, MK, hemel, Luton - all the shitholes, were overrun with vermin exported up there from their plague pits.

Ok it was one season 84/85 they finished third and where in with a shout until they played Everton (h) towards the end of the season. Somehow I ended up going and in the Everton end for that game. Everton where a very good side in those days and turned the spuds over 2-1.

Could not recall them being even that close to a title. Hilarious when you think about it. Glad you witnessed their "near thing" it must have given you a golden glow to see them blow it. They still think they are a big club ...... absolute bollox

Flush , in my teens (late 70's) there was a lot of trouble around Southgate between us n them ,so bad that one of them stabbed up the Bear after a row in some club up there (royalty ?) he almost lost his life at a very young age !
All I said was that it was mixed.
As for the stow and sharia i had the misfortune to live in the stow so i know a bit abt the place :-) and I see theres problems south of hoe street again .

REALLY?

When we used to overnight it there it always looked battered, there were "odd" locals, it needed painting, and the carpets smelled vaguely of piss. But they did sell a cheap but decent pint and my missus' best mate was engaged to one of the barman (that was the reason we originally started drinking/staying there) so the old tills often went off halfway through an all-nighter. :D

Strange to think of the Brownswood I knew now being a gastro-pub!

Also used to be a kebab place next door that did a top kebab. 8)

And I seem to recall one of the barmaids was semi-famous because she had a bit-part in Eastenders or something... :rubchin:

Nowadays Only Chingford and Edmonton are solid Spurs the rest have Huge numbers of Arsenal as to the outlying areas mentioned above . Tottenham itself is a virtual Mogadishu overspill .

Meantime Islington remains and will always be an Arsenal stronghold !
Don't forget Harlow, Herd.....we've even got a fucking Sperz shop in the town centre. Still in my 12 years of being exiled here it does always remind how fortunate I am compared to others :D My neighbour never fails to bring a smile to my face with his 'this year will be the year' pre-season predictions. God bless 'em - life would be much more boring without the sad, knuckle dragging wankers

Harlow indeed what a place , and crammed full of vermin too, with a sprinkle of Spam .
The Stow used to have a spurs shop too but I think it closed !
Me and a mate used to go in there frequently to ask for the latest Arsenal shirts whilst chemically imbalanced .
The best though was going in there at sale time with all our friends rummaging for bargains and winding them up
haggling with the staff over prices and getting spurs fans to agree how shit the gear was .
