When Paddy came over from Ireland,
In praise of the AFC,
We hadn't won an awful lot since 1953,
Well he'd stand at the back of the Clock End,

In the sun and the rain,
Week after week for many a year,
But never a trophy came,
Second leg of The Fairs Cup Final,
We'd already lost away,
We needed to pull something out the bag,
In order to save the day,
Then Paddy remembered a ditty, .
His father used to sing,
And quickly jumped up on to his feet and started to sing it again.

So Paddy got up and he sung it again .
Over and over and over again
B' Jesus said Paddy I sang it so well
I think I'll get up and I'll sing it again.
So Paddy got up and he sung it again…….

Now The Gunners they all played like heroes
To the song that Paddy had sung
And Kelly and Radford and Sammels
Made sure that the Fairs Cup was won.

The next year things got even better
The Arsenal the best in the land
We marched up the Seven Sisters Road
And invaded every stand
We covered the whole of the High Road
And all the streets around
We knew that we would win the league
When we heard a familiar sound
Ray Kennedy's header was priceless
And as Paddy sang out aloud
The Gunners were once again Champions
And The Boys had done us proud

And Paddy got up and he sang it again
Over and over and over again
B' Jesus said Paddy I sang it so well
I think I'll get up and I'll sing it again.
So Paddy got up and he sung it again

Just a few days later that we found out
As we marched along Wembley Way
That Paddy just hadn't stopped singing
Since the match on the previous Monday
Now he sung for the full 90 minutes
And he sung right through extra time
And for all Paddy's trouble
The boys done The Double
So Paddy got up and he sang it again

Over and over and over again
B' Jesus said Paddy I sang it so well
I think I'll get up and I'll sing it again.
So Paddy got up and he sung it again

Now we've won the League up at Old Trafford
We've won it at Anfield too
When Paddy was singing on Merseyside
And we had to beat them by two
We'd already won it at Tottenham
When we lifted the pot at The Lane
We liked it so much
It was such a nice touch
To go back there and win it again
So The Arsenal went back there and won it again

Over and over and over again
B' Jesus said Paddy I sang it so well
I think I'll get up and I'll sing it again.
So Paddy got up and he sung it again

Now he's travelling all around Europe
Over land and sea (and Leicester)
He's been drunk in Madrid
He's been nicked in Kiev
And he got stoned at PSV
Now wherever The Arsenal may wander
Be it Munich or Paris or Rome
They all c*ck an ear
And they know that we're there
When they listen to Paddy's sweet tones

And Paddy got up and he sang it again
Over and over and over again
B' Jesus said Paddy I sang it so well
I think I'll get up and I'll sing it again.
So Paddy got up and he sang it again

Thanks for that ,super . I remember learning the chorus bit up at Huddersfield away in the pouring rain . (A midweek league cup game in about 91) , the lad singing it was always known as letterbox head because if he turned his swede sideways it would fit thro a letterbox :barscarf:

I stand to be corrected but only ever heard that being sung for Chippy and the two Charlies. What an elite club :barscarf: :barscarf:

Probably could and should have been sung for others but don't ever remember hearing it.

Always loved Good Old Arsenal ...... :barscarf: :barscarf:
The king of highbury was first a song for Charlie George.

Good Old Arsenal was a bit of an embarassment becuase the BBC thought Arsenal needed a song for the 71 cup final and had a competition.

Piss take on United . Sung to the Jimmy Durante song "one of those things "

We are the pride of north london,
the cream of the south,
we hate United because they're all mouth,
The cannons will roar and the cockerel will fall
because we are the arsenal the greatest of all.

REB ; We have been singing Jesus to Paddy since about 1982 it's a Herd Original , but I've never ever seen the above bit ,and none of us remember why we sang it we just knew we did and it caught on like wildfire ?
I suspect its been added long after but I'm fascinated nonetheless . Any clues chaps !

Fair enough , i see it refers to WHL 87 and Anfield 89 ,so its written after metinks .
I remember it from 82 and singing it for 25 mins non stop at Villa !
Love the above version as ours was rather short and very repetitive !

Was talking to some plank in Paris in 06 that thought "Paddy" was about Vieira.... :|

Always loved the NB singing "Sign on... with a pen... in your hand..." at the Victims. :barscarf: 8)

And "Clock End - do your job" was brilliant. 8)

The oldest one I know is

Send the gunners up the field
for one more goal
no other team can fight
like the boys in red and white
never let their glory fade
long may they rein
so let us all give out with
Up the gunners up the gunners score

I heard it in the 60's I was told it came from the 30's from the old boy who used to sing it in the pub

+++

When it rains we get wet but we aint been taken yet where the clock the clock end Highbury !

Tick tock tick tock we are the Highbury clock

List is endless
