West Ham reduce Season Ticket Prices

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

I'm not surprised they can afford to drop ticket prices; they've been given (like Citeh before them) a brand new stadium that Johnny tax-payer has forked out for and all it's going to cost is, what, £15m up front and £2.5m p/a?

It's a fucking con.

Who benefits from the inevitable naming rights too?

Add to those facts above, the one that they haven't got a fucking hope in selling the place out apart from once in a blue moon.....simple case of supply and demand. A fairer comparison of our ticket prices should be against Man Ure who can fill the place week in week out, and have prices consistently cheaper than ours.

Is it fair to compare London prices with Manchester? - does any equivalent product cost more up there?

Surely a better comparison is Arsenal and Chelsea. I doubt there's much in it.

We live on a small island in a globalised world mate, I'd say its fair. Given that a huge number of Man Ure fans commute from outside Manchester, and knowing that many season tickets are held by corporates, I don't think the geography thing is relevant. Even the Northern based Mancs generally come from the 'Cheshire set'. Its not like comparing the price of a pint of lager in Salford Working Mens Club to one in the centre of London. My old company have had six season tickets at OT for years.....they and many others would continue to renew if the prices went up by 10,15, even 20% I'd say

Jacob Steinberg's idiotic arguement on the Guardian podcast, can be summed up as "the ends justify the means". I guess if some homeless guy mugs him, that would be ok because he can do without his wallet and the homeless guy really needs it. :barscarf:

I can see West Ham increasing the value of the club, the owners selling and making big profits. That's the end game. Perhaps they'll even wangle buying the stadium in the end. :rubchin:

He also seemed to say, we'll do you want it to be a white elephant and stay empty, as if that justifies giving it to West Ham for peanuts. Also notable that he was silent when the issue of Leyton Orient was mentioned, they're going to be fucked over by this and the West Ham fans don't give a toss.

Well yeah, LLDC could've said "give us £300m for it", but instead we get some very shady 99 year lease for £2m a year. Ajax pay £5m for their lease on the ArenA which puts it into context.

Nobody had a fucking clue what to do with it, so they let it go to West Ham on the cheap and lots of people come out of it a great deal richer.

You make an interesting point about United ticket demand and prices, but there's certainly a north-south divide. Without checking, I'd imagine United, Citeh and Liverpool have cheaper tickets than Arsenal, Chavs and Sp*rs. In fact, it wouldn't surprise me if there's a huge difference.

I guess it's easier for London clubs to justify (get away with! ) higher ticket prices as London charges the earth for most things. It's not just football, but housing, tourist attractions, other sporting events, etc. are also high priced.

It's a great city but it's ridiculously expensive.
