Peter crouch

I can't remember the goals he scored against us in previous years but last year's at Ashburton was all on the ground, Crouch showed great control and beat 2 or 3 defenders before scoring from the edge of the box.

If we sell Ade and replace him with Crouch, that's it for me, the season will be over before it's begun. This summer is getting more and more depressing on a footy front. Bit early to judge yet as we don't know who'll go or who we'll buy but Crouch??? do me a fuckin favour

£15 million is cheap? What kind of world am I living in where that is considered cheap?

Crouch is a good player, his heading towards goal is poor and is far from lethal but he is a good striker. Done well for Liverpool and England however he is no replacement for Ade, too expensive and there is no way we are getting him.

Crouch

What is wrong with some Arsenal fans? So Adebayor is a world class striker is he? No he needs 4 chances for every goal he scores, first touch is shite.
When has Crouch ever let England down? If the England managers didn't have the same preconceptions about him that the first repsonses in this thread have we would probably be in the Euros now!
He reminds me of a Niall Quinn only more like when he was at Sunderland.

Sorry lads but sometimes you lot do talk a load of shite!

Well said fella!

I do often think that we are blinded by the prejudices we have towards a certain player due to the current team he plays for!

I remember people last summer saying Berbatovv was shit and no way would he be of any use to Arsenal!

Very short-sighted!

30 goals in a season suggests Ade has the potential to be.

With Crouch it is the supply to him that tends to let England, bit hard to keep the ball when everyone else is back in their own half playing boot it to the tall guy.

I agree that a fair sum of people are being too biased, he can find the back of the net well. Is he a good replacement for Ade? That's a different story. But don't we still have the same two midgets playing CB?? So I think its a bit premature to start slagging on him just yet.

But we dont play the george graham style football anymore so signing a niall quinn/crouch would be pointless  Anyway for those that championed his performances against us can they tell me how many kicks of the ball he got at anfield last season in champs lge game ? He scored a hat-trick the season before and one at the emirates last season in games that meant nothing to either club (at least not to us anyway) so there is no point using those games as examples

He probably got more touches with his head than kicks with his feet in the CL game at Anfield and ultimately that destroyed us seeing as it led to their second goal. Crouch is always going to be primarily a target man but his goal at the Emirates was scored with a good touch, turn and finish. The hatrick game we were chasing Liverpool for third place and the Emiartes game we were still in with a chance of the league at that point so both games should have mattered to the players very much. Plus there should be just the point of playing your profession with as much passion and pride even with nothing at stake. Plus if he is so shit which defenders would want the shame of having Crouch put 3 past them? That would be hard to live down wouldn't it?

Look at it this way, if we were to say a top four team in the PL and Top 10 in Europe, were consistantly unable to deal with a threat from a certain player in Domestic and European competition and their supposed top level manager is unable to draw up any kind of effective game plan against said player, some might say that must be one hell of a player, no?

Again I'm not championing Crouch's performances against us as reasons why he would be a good signing for us, I don't want us to sign him. As you put it well Augie, we don't play George Graham football anymore. I feel Crouch is better than he is given credit for, certainly better than the likes of Kuyt and Voronin in the Liverpool squad.
