i doubt they would let alex go, and it is a shame. he is an excellent CB. one of the best there is, in my opinion

If Alex came to us our defence would be built around him for the next 7 or 8 years he would probably be our captain, at Chelski he's going to be just another CB as long as Terry is there and it's not definite he will be preferred to Carvalho when he's fully fit, also Chelski have other decent CB's and they have the means to buy pretty much anyone they want to replace Alex if needed.

We have had ample opportunity to entice Alex to come to us over the last few years while he was still at PSV and while he was spending most games watching from the bench at Chelski, yes now it's going to be much harder to get him because he has had a good run in the Chelski first team
but if we put a good offer in it's not out of the question we could get him.

The easiest way to find out if it's a possibility is to put a good offer in, like most teams who really need a player do, thats why we will never know because we won't put a good offer in even though we now have the funds to do so.

The guy's right, it isn't to do with height rather than actual ability to win the ball in the air. If we can find some 5 foot 7 bloke with springs in his legs (how cool would that be  ) that will do fine but I rather think a 6 foot 2 plus brute is a tad more likely.

Maldini was 6ft 1 maybe 6ft 2 depending on which source you want to believe, as for the other two if you played them two together in the premieship they would get shat all over week in week out from corners and set pieces in particular, i have no doubt both of them would do quite well in the prem but only if they had someone of more size playing next to them, and i'm not talking about Peter Crouch.

Maybe you could list all the successful teams in English football history that had two guys 6ft or under playing centre half together, i think you will struggle to find any, there is a reason for that.

How has it got nothing to do with height? So imagine this, you have peter crouch/dogba up front, with sean wright phillips the new converted center back marking him. I dont care how good you are at heading the ball, reading the game, timing your jump. A cross comes in there is no way SWP would jump as high to win a header above a tall center forward. We concede goals from long balls, corners, long throw ins, because at a corner against stoke as an example we have clichy, fabregas on the posts and still have denilson, nasri, walcott etc marking center halfs :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

ok height doesnt matter when your nit pickin between 3 or 4 inches , if you wana be stupid and make the comparison between crouch an swp then you an idoit.

but most tall people cant jump any way so by the time the guy of 6ft and the guy of 6ft 4 have jumped they will usually be at the same height anyway.

The problem with our defence is not the height....there just too scared to head the ball. From boys football we are taught to attack the ball and not wait for the ball to come to them....which is what our centre backs are doing.

And why are we using SWP as an example of a centreback marking the freak? There is not a defender out there smaller than SWP! but just incase there was there is no way they be the man to mark the lanky piece of shit.

You said height had fcuk all to do with it. We have had the same center back partnership of gallas-toure since 06/07 and since then we have had the same problem, defending and holding onto a lead in games when teams go direct and throw the kitchen sink at you. With kolo looking like he is going, a vermalen-gallas partnership is not IMO an improvement on what we need. Look at the parternships at cb that have worked best in the premier league. A footballer and a defender. Vidic-ferdinand, terry-carvalho. sol-toure, gallas-terry. We need a tall commanding physical center half.

NOOO we need a comanding centre half, who takes no shit, its there inability to head not there height thats the problem.

im not sayin im happy with there partnership cos i really am not, but it is not because of THERE height.

your point is when we get bombarded at the end of a game, are they therefor the only two arsenal players aloud to head the ball then, there are at least 7 players on the pitch under 6ft but you lay the blame on toure and gallas being an inch too small

I do agree as CB partnership needs one big unit and 1 tidy player to clear up behind him. I do also think that a big enforcer in front of the back 4 would suply abit of protection that we have missed since PV4 and others have left.
