Harry just can't help himself can he.MK Gould wrote:BBC:
Well it wouldn't be a transfer deadline day without some late drama involving Tottenham - and it appears the Londoners DID make a dramatic bid for Blackpool midfielder Charlie Adam, but failed in their efforts when the last-gasp offer was rejected by the Seasiders.
So now our season relies heavily on luck! If our key members can stay fit for a major part of the remaining season, then we will challenge for the PL...
Oh but wait! Nasri is out, Fabiansky will probably need surgery and we don't know when we'll see a fit TV yet!!!
Soon enough Chamack will deputise for RVP, or Diaby for Cesc, or Denilson for Song, or Squillaci for either Djourou or Kos, or Comrade for Sagna, or Aluminium Al for Chezzer...
We're walking on a very thin line IMO...

Is that not a case for all teams barring Man City maybeFrenchGun wrote:So now our season relies heavily on luck! If our key members can stay fit for a major part of the remaining season, then we will challenge for the PL...

Fair argument except all other teams (Man shitty included) don't have our antecedent with injuries.Iceman29 wrote:Is that not a case for all teams barring Man City maybeFrenchGun wrote:So now our season relies heavily on luck! We are really tempting fate by acting so cautiously. It was the same last season at this time of the year and it backfired. I'm not talking about signing big names a la Chavs or scouse, but we could've definitly done with one additionnal CB and a DM. Maybe even one player who could do both. IMO we have absolutly no cover for Song in DM departement, and we miss one body in CB... badly!
No other team would watch the transfer window pas by with only 3 CB's and one DM while challenging for four trophies!

It makes me laugh that the only bit of business Arsenal did today was letting a centreback go out on loan... I realize Kyle Bartley is not a first teamer, but the irony is quite comical.
Arsenal's lack of buying recently is difficult to accept. I appreciate we home-grow our players, and I respect it. But there's just such gaping holes in the team that could be so easily filled, and we are a profitable club that has widespread title ambitions... it makes no sense to me.

I agree but does the Board share those same ambitions? Does the manager for that matter? Either way you want to look at it no one is pushing to improve the team to try and assure we fulfill or have the best chance to fulfill those ambitions.Barriecuda wrote:It makes me laugh that the only bit of business Arsenal did today was letting a centreback go out on loan... It's a little worrisome truthfully. I still am undecided if Wenger personally doesn't want to spend, or he's just being the model employee and not spending as a result of the board's request/direction. After all, he is one to typically carry out his contracts in an extremely professional and diligent manner, and he does have a proven track record of buying players. Time will tell.USMartin wrote:I agree but does the Board share those same ambitions? Does the manager for that matter? Someday Wenger will look back and think he almost got it right and only if he would have done this or that.
All of us can see we carry Denilson, Rosicky, Eboue, Bendtner, Squirrel, Alumnia, plus the form of Arshavin needs a decision at some point.
A good CB would have made a great difference but off loading one or two dead wood could have opened space for newer better players.
Arsenal have money and lots of it so while Chelsea spend massive after just a few defeats we just plod along and get the same result.
Mind you we win the Carling Cup this year ! Dont worry ITS MASSIVE.

Chelsea too. Torres, Drogba, Anelka and Malouda up front, Ramires, Zhirkov, Lampard, Mikel, Essien, Benayoun in mid, Alex, Terry, Luiz at centreback.donaldo wrote:Man Utd? I think Arsenal's starting XI is fantastic and can win against anyone in the Premier League. But our second string is pretty weak, particularly Denilson, Diaby, Eboue, Rosicky. This is one of the first years we've had relative health *knock on wood* but our thinness we'll be exposed if anyone else important gets hurt in the next month.

you have to agree that a revitalised Fernando Torres is going to make Chelsea a better side than they have been so far this season. The fact that we don’t have to play them again and that Manchester United have to play them twice has to be good for our chances in the league, yes? Simple as that, really.

Here’s a question. Name me FIVE (5) sides in English Football history (not just EPL history, you can go back as far as you want) that had a 2nd string of players that could be played en masse and get decent results? I am interested to hear the answers to this. Chelsea and Man City are not allowed since they have sugar daddies that can pay ridiculous wages. So come on, five sides that had a strong 2nd string of players in all of football history?supergeorgegraham wrote:Someday Wenger will look back and think he almost got it right and only if he would have done this or that.

People dont seem to get just how lucky we are to have a squad like this.
We played for over half the match with 10 men, without Sagna, Djourou, our first two ‘keepers, Clichy, Wilshire, RvP, Walcott, Ramsey, Vermaelen and Nasri. It was Diaby’s first game back after a long, long injury. Song played central defense. Chamakh is in terrible form.
And we won. Against a decent lower division side that was playing its Cup Final.
What the heck is the problem?
