The philosophical flaw with modern day officials strikes again. They go looking for reasons to send a player off instead of giving them the benefit of the doubt and making every effort to keep 11players on the pitch.

They chose not to intervene at Wolves and went with the on-field decision because it suited them but this time around they had to intervene. In both instances, they ensured the worst punishment was given and this is their overriding motivation.
