It is not the fucking place to say that type of comments. Keep it in house, in the programme or whatever.
I sit in Block 6 so am always standing and it is always loud so hard to get an idea of what its like in the rest of the ground. Although going to many away games (where our support is up there with the best imo) are we any quieter than other grounds? No.
We are louder than chelsea, utd, newcastle... I could go on and on. Of course it pisses me off that *word censored* sit there all game and dont make a sound and leave to get hot dogs 10 mins early and then fuck off 5 mins early... but Arsenal have encouraged this type of supporter.
BUT I do not think Arsena was having a proper go at the general support... I reckon it may have been a barbed comment in relation to treatment of Ade (by some) or it was just used to galvanise us / get us to step it up further coz he really thinks we are onto something this year.
Although I don't reckon it was the right place to say it... I bet the atmosphere goes up a couple of notches ahainst the **** and after. Trust me, for the big games we are as loud as anyone.
And as for the idiot talking about the 'highbury library' - what a clown. You clearly wasnt around in the north bank or clock end through the years.
Rant over

I can see why people feel aggrieved by Arsene's criticism.
But I reckon it wasn't aimed at ALL of us. Maybe we are taking it too personally. We have every right to get on the team's back, if they are not putting the effort in. The team has every right to expect full and proper support, if they are trying their best.
The atmosphere at the Grove is shit, most of the time. We all know this.
The club fucked up big-time when we moved from Highbury. They should have kept the integrity of Northbank and Clock End Areas. Family enclosure should be along the side.
And, if you are looking to build a good atmosphere, the last thing you need is overzealous stewards telling you to sit down and shut up.
I reckon Arsene's comments were designed to "fire up the crowd". He's human. He makes mistakes.

Agree with Gus's opener and Augie on this one.
Yes the atmosphere is poor. BUT - who bans flags where other grounds don't ? Who becomes almost hysterical if fans stand up and tells them to sit down ? Who sites any old bit of 'elf and safety rubbish to ensure the fans act like manequins ?
Is our support so bad that the ground is empty ?
Some ticket holders don't show but generally we sell out.
Our away support also continues to sell out.
I am also well and truly FUC#ED OFF with Wenger's constant bleating about this being "a young team".
He hasn't yet come out and said we should be given a goal start each game to adjust the - in his mind - handicap. But I wouldn't be suprised if he tries that at some stage before May
The age of the team is utterly irrelevant. It's what they do - or do not - win that counts.
At least some shareholders had the temerity (Guts !) to criticise Wenger's bone headed refusal to strengthen the squad where we all know it's needed.
I wouldn't have hesitated if I'd have been there.

I don't think Wenger was really even commenting on the actual atmosphere in the ground. What he is worried about is for the first time since he joined in 1996, some fans has lost faith in him (and therefore his team).
You can look at it 2 ways. You either believe Wenger has delivered enough success over the years to be given the slack he wants, or you can criticise his current team policies and demand better. Frankly I think we should be demanding better.
The guy gets more backing than any other manager in the world. His job is not in the least bit threatened by the board. I'm all for stability but if the target is to win major trophies and he fails to deliver over a sustained period why shouldn't the fans ask questions?
That said, I don't agree with targeting individuals during the game, even if they do have dubious commitment to the team. I always want us to win and will sing and cheer as much as I can to help the team. Mind you that is sometimes easier said than done when you get performances like the 1st half against Everton!

Yes, out support is shit, and all you "new" supporters who've taken to Arsenal since Wenger took over, you're part of "the twelfth man". If you're going to sit there doing fuck all for 90 mins, you have no right to slag Adebayor off for doing the same.
sorry I know I was there singing

It is down more to stadium management than Wenger, to encourage atmosphere and reign in the stewards.SWLGooner wrote:Look, I'm a new fan and was an armchair fan. I sit in club level. SO, WHAT THE FUCK ARSENE!! I SING AND I STAND SOME OF THE TIME!! WHY THE FUCK DO YOU COMPLAIN WHEN IT IS 50% YOUR OWN FUCKING FAULT??!!
Sorry, but it is not only the failure to win anything, but it tis the CLUB DISAPPROVING OF ATMOSPHERE! I have been asked to be quiet on quite a few occasions, and if I had a typical steward, I would be in trouble. It's a FUCKING JOKE.
Not only do the club disencourage atmosphere, they complain. And they don't attempt to help us in any way. They could help with the cards. They dont.
SHUT IT ARSENE!!
Wenger is busy with the team.

Quartz i could not agree more. it's not AW job to encourage support. the problems as we know are down to the club totally misunderstanding the supporters and overzealous stewardingQuartzGooner wrote:It is down more to stadium management than Wenger, to encourage atmosphere and reign in the stewards.SWLGooner wrote:Look, I'm a new fan and was an armchair fan. I agree with Gus that AW should not air the dirty laundry in public like this - it's embarrassing.
Also, like we've all posted on here for months and months, the atmos at the Grove is appalling most of the time. The club has to take some responsibility for this; wanky stewards, JCL's, outpricing genuine fans, shite like "The blunder of poo", breaking up the NB and CE crowds... the list goes on and on...
I remember being at our thrashing of Derby last season and the fucking Derby fans were outsinging us, and they were getting jocked on the pitch!! I was in Club Level with my bro and we were giving it loads chanting and singing and trying to get the punters around us up and making noise... christ what a waste of time... a good number of those around us just looked confused...
