For those who want to celebrate tonight

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Dear dear, a troubled wee soul aren't we??? which one of the 5 personalities is in charge today???
Last I counted there were only 4 and for sure Negative Norman was the dominant one last night. He only seems to appear on brandy nights.

Perhaps it's cos I'm still hungover, but I have zero confidence going into the QF's.

More likely it's the shite served up last night that lingers in my brain.

And you're Wenger like comments hardly convince me that I'm wrong to feel this way.

Embarrassingly bad almost.

Are you gonna go cry to your Liverpool, Man U and Chelsea mates that they better be quaking in their boots? Cos we destroyed Italys best (?) in Roma? On penners. Without having a decent shot on goal in the second leg.

The emoticon hasn't been invented for me to describe my dismay at your insular vision.

Perhaps you'll feel better if we get knocked out in the next round, cos its one round further  or the round after? Shit we may as well make the final again and lose cos that'll mean we among the elite in Europe? Yawn, I say Yawn cos there is no emoticon to purvey my feeling.

ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ, come on fella it was not good but what is the point of that post? if you can't cheer a win (whatever the circumstances) then whats the point?

Those responses are just idiotic, and bereft of all logic!

Drink a pint of water before bed... it'll help with the hangover, mate :-P
Yes mate Ive had a good few brews but I could see the shit before my eyes after 45 mins when I was still quite sober. It's a shame you couldn't. Still I do love saying I told you so, so meet me back here in a few weeks, I'll keep a special note in mind for you'se guys who thought Roma was the pinnacle of our season.
1. Mate, I could see the shit before me... I'm not blind. But I'm delighted we won... I can't understand why you aren't!

2. Look back through my posts and I promise you, I never said Roma was the pinnacle of our season; we were shit!! I know that!

The tone of your posts seems to be that you want us to fail... or that because we aren't the best (and we're definately not!) then there's no point in trying. :?

Could you clarify your stance please Number 5?? because, I don't get it. Surely, we all want Arsenal to win regardless of how we play??

My stance I think is pretty straight forward.

Last night would have been a great result for a team with no ambitions of winning the trophy.

If we have serious idea's of going back to Rome, playing like that won't take us there. It is impossible for a team to stumble through a competition like this and win the damn thing.

This week we have seen Liverpool carve up Madrid, Man U beat Inter, Chelsea do Juve, Bayern hammer Sporting and Barca trounce Lyon.

The other 7 teams left will see us as the weakest team left in the comp. And I'm supposed to feel good about that? Of course I want us to win and will cheer the team throught he whole 90 mins regardless of how they are playing.

But when the final whistle blows and all that is left is the aftermath of last night I'm not going to come on here and whoop it up like the rest of you.

I'd hate to see this place if we got knocked out last night.... :banghead:

The QFs are a different game, we start fresh, could play a blinder or awful. You don't need to be the best team to progress in the CL - Liverpool almost knocked out of the group stage in 2005, won against Chelsea when the ball didn't cross the line, were 3 - 0 down in the final and needed a dodgy penalty to get back into it... United outplayed and losing in their final, Porto fucking won it.

All thisn talk of "if we played a better team last night"... if we did, we'd have had to have played better, the players would have had to have given more effort.

Are there any better teams in the next round? Cos we sure did whup them Romans innit?
rigsby wrote:I'm sorry mate I can't share your sentiment. I agree we were not good, but its all about winning a game, if the winner was always the one who played the best football would not be such a cruel game
Shit you are too romantic, under 18 I guess?

As I say I respect your opinion, but come on, this games over now, we're through. Stop being an idiot and just enjoy it. Should we have lost to Burnley at the weekend JUST INCASE we loose to Chelsea?!! I really cnt understand your negativity
Thanks for the pep talk, I was just about to go down Loftus Road.

No we should lose to Hull before Chelsea beat us. A real supporter would know that.
and Radford thought he was miserable

I just don't get how anyone can feel flat after that :?

Penalty shoot out in the European Cup, away in Rome... and we qualified!

I know we didn't play well, but we know we can play much better than that, and with Cesc, Eduardo, Ade and Theo on their way back to fitness, we might be in better shape in the quarter finals...

it's a long shot, but you've got to be in it to win it, and thanks to some luck and good fortune, we're still in with a shout!

I'm delighted.
I couldnt put it better myself,

I thought this was going to be a radford style thread, but number 5 has taken that role this evening

I'm not usually miserable.

Generally I can see positives out of most situations.

This year I genuinely believed the CL was our best chance of success but something hit me last night and I can't shake it.

Fuck you lot and your blind optimism. It's not like we won a semi final last night and one more good performance seals the deal. We'll need 5 decent performances to lift the trophy.

Good luck in your little world's thinking that is still possible.

Ok, here's one positive: We're through to the next round. What more could you want last night? A performance so great UEFA decide to award us the trophy early?

The CL is the hardest trophy in the world to win, as all the best teams in all the best leagues in the world are desperate for it. I never thought we'd be likely to win it, but we have as good a chance as any as we've proven we can beat anyone on our day.

Digger that comment sums up our season,The better the opposition the better we will play.Thats no fucking good against the likes of Hull Stoke and Fulham. Our big time charlies dont want to roll their sleeves up against poor opposition,And the man to blame for that is Wenger

Sounds like your looking forward to us getting knocked out (was it that many pints was it  ) or have i got that totally wrong?

You sound pissed off because we qualified?

Why not celebrate a win? (Cardiff 2005 we were shit and outplayed, do you care? i dont)

We all know were below par, does that mean we shouldnt celebrate?

ARE YOU RADFORD IN DISGUISE?

oi oi Radford fells you're being a tad harsh

Radford no one is saying we shouldnt celebrate.Last night the pub i was in was rocking after the game,BUT do you think Wenger would have learned any lessons for last night. The answer is NO.He will carry on his stubborn ways. The penalties last night papered over an awful performance.

You're right, it wasn't good enough. But we won.

IF we play like that in every CL game this season, including the final, no-one will be happier than me. Ok, you can't beat playing with a swagger but in 2002 & 2003, 2005, 2006 and some parts of 2007 we played some amazing stuff, ripped the opposition to shreds, but failed to lift any major silverware. 2008 and 2009 are very different, awful football, grinding out results, but if we get one of the major honours we've earned in previous seasons, we can't complain.

Gus and I celebrated last night big style, completely freaking the dog out big time!!

But the whole way through the game we sat relatively quietly...I even said to Gus that he was markedly quiet for him, his usual swearing, screaming and jumping up and down very subdued and we were nervous as hell with penalties but although they didn't play particularly great they pulled through in the end and for that we must applaud them! :barscarf:

p.s. just a real girl comment...............what has happened to Theo...where has the skinny rake gone, I was so shocked I thought out loud stating how fit he looked,(much to Gus' shock!) he has properly bulked up!!! 8)
