There were obvious hidden agendas at work last night. I am with g88ner 100%. A thread was laid as a trap for Quartz and as soon as he entered he was called a *word censored*, a jumped up arse and power monkey. It was absurd to see those that did it try a belated attempt at a reasoned argument. It was even more absurd to see a mod participate in the game. That suprised me because I think that mod usually is unbiased. This really does appear to be a warped playground sometimes.

I wholly disagree with Quartz's political inclinations but I have noticed how he restrains himself from voicing them in the manner he must feel. Last night he restrained himself and showed an integrity which in itself demonstrates why he was just the type of character who should be a mod.

His posts are well written. That doesn't make me feel insecure. If you see structured argument as offensive then that is a personal issue. Projecting feelings of superiority into Quartz isn't the answer. If the Daily Mail/soft porn brigade have forced Quartz from the forum then shame on them. There is a middle ground we all could have walked on.

If I was in a pub pre or post match I am sure I would have a laugh with gus. He seems a funny, witty person. He is far too quick, however, to resort to name calling which is suprising for somebody who is incapable of taking any name calling directed at himself. I know that Spudmasher and Rebel are friends of his and that makes the situation difficult but sometimes you've got to call a spade a spade and the lad was one of three who were out of order last night.

5. support sky and stenta in EVERYTHING THEY DO

6. actually like alan green

7. tollorating the 4x2's

8. loving eboue, bendtner, song, denielson, rvp, ade with all your heart

of cousre Radford is joking.
which we on here are have none of the above, i know you were having a joke radford but people dont realise how lucky they are with the mods on here when you visit other arsenal sites and see the overreaction to posts on them, like the official site where you cant be negative or say anything controversial
Agree with that I was asked to leave one form cos i split arshavins name to ars shaving and they said THAT was unnacceptable cos they didn't want name calling? On here you can pretty much have a serious point about the arsenal or just some random bollocks that everyone gets involved in and takes the piss. That is just good fun. I have no opinion of the 3 that had the disagreement other than i got on with them all, shame to see them go

I will really miss Gus and Wayno from here, they were always very entertaining. Of course as I am their friend I shall be keeping in contact and meeting up next saturday. I hope we dont lose Mrs Gus too, although I guess by association we shall :?: It will be very sad if this becomes another version of the sanitised .com forum.

I shall keep my feelings about quartz to myself as I have no wish to close this forum.

Would like all 3 to come back, the place will no longer be the same.

I hope all three come back as they make a big part of this forum.

They balance each other out and you can click on their threads according to mood. The forum will lose out with their absence and I hope it is temporary.

I've mentioned how I felt about last night (not that I'm important outside of my own head!) and so won't go into that again.

Not for the first time Cockerill’s Chin’s pretty much summed up most of my thoughts better than I could have put it myself.

I would add though that almost most bizarre of all was the hypocritical nature of the accusations thrown Quartz’ way. Somehow he was being accused of objecting to other people expressing their opinions & of being on a mission to have the forum his way or the highway by people who seemed to object to him expressing his opinions & who seemed to be on a mission to have the forum their way or the highway! :?

Not to mention a mod (who I agree has always seemed more than fair & a decent bloke) not only not putting a stop to it but joining in, while simultaneously accusing Quartz of wanting to abuse his mod powers. :? :?

Whether or not it was really the case it all felt a bit like teenage girls bullying in the playground when reading it… not really a good look for grown men.

Even still hopefully after a cooling off everyone involved can swallow their pride & get back to posting here cos they’re all generally quality contributors to the site in their own ways. 8)

Was it gooner.ed's decision to invite Quartz to be a moderator? I would not have put him forward in the first place as I believe there are more suitable candidates.

Even though this place is not the one that I used to enjoy so much, I defend everyone's right to be here and express themselves (within legal reason) even if it makes me not visit or contribute as much.

rebel has stated elsewhere that it was he who suggested him. myself, mike francis and rob considered this and could see no reason why he would not do a decent job.

I haven't been a member on here too long, and haven't posted since early Saturday morning, so I missed last night's episode, but I am really disappointed to have lost to this great forum (although I only hope temporary) great posters and characters of the members mentioned.

I really hope that they come back very soon.

I skip the forum for one night and I miss all this shit ?? In fact miss is the wrong word cos what happened here is depressing and is causing a real threat to the future success of this forum. I agree that it is no coincidence that events like last night invariably happen when there are no games to talk about but seeing as we wont be able to get uefa and fifa to change this then we better sort out this mess ourselves.

I have a few contrasting opinions on what happened -

I totally agree that sometimes quartz's postings can come across as very patronising. He sometimes talks like he is in the know in much the same way that myles palmer does (and we know how popular he aint on here  ). However, while it used to bug me a lot in the beginning, it longer does bug me and I feel that the guy does not intend to be patronising at all but it is just the way he is. Yes he has strong opinions but that also applies to a lot of us on here including gus and wayno. Yes he can come across as having a vendetta against van persie but that is no different to lethal's "obsession" with eboue or my major dislike of song (useless *word censored* )

On the other side I, like a hell of a lot of members on here, really enjoy gus and wayno's contributions to this forum. Occasionaly they can be a volitile combination when mixed together but by and large their humour and banter have been major factors in the riswe of popularity of this forum. That they started off with objections to quartz as a mod I can see and hopefully they too can see in hindsight that they may have carried their objections a tad too far. They, and they are far from alone on here, believe that the humour, banter and general all round piss takes have been phased out around here as a more "functional and pc attitude" takes control and they appear to see quartz as a symbol of that change (I disagree with them on that for what it is worth). I feel that they would probably prefer if someone of a similar mindset was made a mod thus ensuring the traditions of this forum continued and maybe they should have stayed arguing that point to which they would have received a lot of support. Instead they have come out of this looking like it was a personal attack on quartz rather than what they feel he stands for.

I believe that every member of this forum should feel the right to express their opinions on everything and that includes the selection of mods. I dont know that selecting a mod should become a popularity contest as has been suggested but clearly there are some members (myself included) who may not be right for the job as their very presence seems to rile and annoy other members (maybe as a result of previous debates). Whether quartz fits into that category or not is up to the masses to say but personally I would have zero problems with his "promotion". However I think that it would greatly improve the site in terms of quality and morale if we can "seduce" all three members back into our Gooner family again as this place wouldnt be the same without them and I for one have spent far too many hours of enjoyment on here just let this fade away
