Forum now unlocked
I’ve now unlocked the forum. Apologies to everyone who has missed it over the last 12 hours or so, but I felt it was necessary to close it down for a while to prevent the situation which had developed on Saturday evening getting worse.
I returned home just after midnight from what had been a very pleasant evening out to find a flurry of emails regarding events on the forum. I did not have the inclination or the energy to read them all or look at the forum at that time of night and so took the decision to lock it down (as opposed to shut it down which was certainly a temptation), until I could digest everything.
The issue was regarding the position of moderator and in particular an individual who had been proposed to be one. In my opinion, mods do a crucial job for the forum and without them it wouldn't exist - simple as that. Criticism of them therefore always seems very harsh to me and to not even give someone a chance before launching into them, even more so.
I made a plea last week in a thread about the forums future for people to try and get along with each other but this seems to have fallen on deaf ears in some cases.
Two individuals have subsequently “resignedâ€

glad the forum is back up and running but the simple fact is the forum does need a new mod or two as it is only spudmasher and i here now as such since none of the other mods are really on here anymore for there own reasons i would presume and since im not on here as much as i used too then thats not fair on spudmasher.
i thought quartz would have made a good mod but can see gus's side of the arguement as well and he did made a lot of good points that i hadnt thought about, will miss the 2 of them as they were good posters and gus is a friend of mine, and i would hope they both come back as they will be missed

Well I don't wanna cos any further grief by critcising anyone suffice to say I can see the situation from both sides, in that I understand why certain members had their reservations about the appointment of Quartz, lack of intelligence certainly not being one of them but maybe a lack of interaction with other members but it should have been dealt with entirely differently as regardless of past conflicts the only reason it all kicked off last nite was cos he was asked to become a mod by the site administrator
I dunno maybe I missed a thread that has been deleted or something, but I did see a couple of threads were opinions were being voiced and verbals being traded but there is obvious personality clashes as every single jibe was being jumped on, just wish everyone could take a step back and give themselves time to reflect on what can only have been cos of the time frame involved...... hasty decisions, the place will certainly be a lot poorer without Quartz's articulate posts and a lot less colourful if the other members also follow thru with their decisions to quit - dear dear

Well, what a sorry end to an eventful evening.
Quite frankly, the hostility shown toward Quartz last night was both wicked and deplorable. The fact that much of it was based on utter bollocks, makes it all the worse. Lethal described it as a witch hunt, and I think he's about right, to be honest.
Quartz is a damn good poster, and a nice bloke, too. He was never nasty to anyone, he never criticised peoples contributions, and even when his faith, culture and beliefs were being ridiculed and scrutinised, he didn't resort to abusive or vulgar language; he stayed calm and responded, putting his views across in a thorough, well thought out way.
He didn't "talk down to people" or "force his beliefs upon us"; those accusations are complete nonesense, and based on posts last night, it would seem that Gus and Wayno were in the minority with that view.
Even in that thread last night, when Wayno, Gus and even Spuddy are at him like a pack of hounds, he doesn't write ONE abusive word in response. When all around him were losing their heads, he didn't and he remained respectful and even tried a little joke that was chewed up and spat out.
Here's the thread...

Honestly, who comes across as the calm one? the one who isn't being disrespectful and nasty??
Even the Israel threads show a man that stayed calm and respectful under severe criticism and disrespect toward his views and beliefs. Each response is well thought out and represented his views. What's wrong with that??
Anyway, whether he would have been the right choice as MOD or not is debatable; I accept that. He would have got my vote, but I undertsand the direction some regulars wanted the forum to go, and possibly Quartz wasn't the right man.
The way his opposition conducted themselves was not on, and NOT the way to do things. Quartz made it clear that he hadn't asked to be a MOD, and that if people had concerns, they should take it up with Kev. Maybe if they'd done that, and conducted themsleves in a civil manner, all this could have been avoided and we wouldn't have lost 3 very good posters!
Anyway, just wanted to get that off my chest.

6. actually like alan green
7. tollorating the 4x2's
8. loving eboue, bendtner, song, denielson, rvp, ade with all your heart

Will miss them, popular members of the forum and good contributors.
I admired Quartz because of his well structured and organised posts, even if I didn't agree with all of them. Not once did I see him forcing his beliefs upon someone. Is defending your religion and beliefs a crime? Of course not.
Here's hoping all three return.

which we on here are have none of the above, i know you were having a joke radford but people dont realise how lucky they are with the mods on here when you visit other arsenal sites and see the overreaction to posts on them, like the official site where you cant be negative or say anything controversialRadford149 wrote:Radford thinks tha Quartz would have been just a good a mod as the others. he reasons what does it take to be a mod? ......
