Lowest moment as a Gooner ?

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

TWO CL Q/F's vs chelsea was actually ill at time made it to the game very optimistic after the away goal draw at the bridge.

then anfield was hugging everyone after the walcott run and giving it to the couple of liverpool fans in pub for all of ten seconds. so high to so low.

others liverpool final 2001, losing chance of title at home to leeds.

last year semi to utd being well beaten.

uncle and grandad still go on about losing to west ham and valencia in 1980.

Probably too many I've blocked from memory to be honest but the UEFA cup final against Galatasary was awful. Outnumbered 5-1 by Turks, outsung more than I've ever known in 40 years of watching Arsenal, an Arsenal team that didn't give a shit and Vieira smiling after he missed his penalty. *word censored*. We took a lot of shit out there on that trip all for nothing.

The last two years of George Grahams era....playing 5 centre backs in a team!? The fact that he took us to the brink of relegation.

Rocky

Some of the abject displays that we've put in - Luton away, Borussia Dortmund in the CL (great trip in every way apart from the performance/result), Man U in the cup

and finally Wenger's blindness and lies. I could forgive a lot of the crap if we were told the truth but he's like a spin doctor and tries to make fans look like mugs sometimes. It's wrong.

There's been a few bad ones (all listed on this thread) but for me the worst was Paris 06. The minute Lehmann came running out I knew we were fucked. Then when Sol scored I believed we could do it. I have waited my whole life for that fucking trophy and even though it is totally devalued to me since they let in 2nd, 3rd and 4th place teams into it, for me it is still the big one, and a club of our magnitude simply must win it.

And I had actually got a ticket and was at the fucking thing! A dream come true. All the celestial forces had aligned, we made it to the final for the first time in our history, I had a ticket and we were about 15 minutes from winning the bastard!!

Then when they equalised I just knew we would lose. It was sickening, heartbreaking. I felt desolate, just gutted. When the second went in I actually just felt like crying TBH... still don't know how I kept the tears in. Afterwards as we walked back to meet up with less fortunate members of our party without tickets I felt the emptiest I've ever felt leaving a football ground.

I think I would've just gone back to the hotel and got obliterated at my minibar in a darkened room by myself only our mate Trish McGarry decided no, we were Gooners, we were gonna get lamped in every pub in Paris and go out with pride. She kept us all going that night and we drank until 7.30 or so the next morning singing our songs with pride and if I'm honest it was the best away trip ever.

Poor Trish died about a year later in a terrible accident at 33 years of age. We buried her in her Arsenal jersey. A wonderful girl and a great friend and I'll always owe her for saving us all that night in Paris.

No contest lowest moment personally was being in Paris. The longest trip home ever. Stupidly booked to stay in paris till the Saturday.

My partner sadly didn't get the romantic couple of days in Paris she thought she might get. It didn't help that the f'ing Barca fans stuck around in Paris as well so kept bumping into them with their scarves and shirts with champs league winner on....ruined my entire summer, even more than Owen's smash and grab in Cardiff.

IT STILL HURTS :( :(

Being in Manchester for the 6-1 humiliation that marked the beginning and end of Stepanovs illustrious career wasn't a barrel of laughs either.

There is one other that sticks in the mind, the sea of plastic wankers leaving our own stadium 20 minutes into a champions league semi-final. If you cannot be bothered to stick around even when we lose, then f' off and support CSKA London. :banghead:

Have to say I thought the Barca fans were brilliant. We drank with a few of them before the game and had a great anti-chelsea sing song too! Alot of them came up to us afterwards and offered their sympathy too, reckoned we were unlucky. Nice lads. Wouldn't have had any of that against an Italian or Turkish team (no offence to our Italian mates on here).

Still it must have hurt seeing those scarves for days afterwards.

I still have nightmares about that game... :(

I don't have particularly bad memories from the CL final to be honest. I remember watching the 2003 final at Old Trafford in my university dorm and thinking, "This is the game to be in". The whole world's watching, and you're at the pinnacle of world football.

Fast forward three years, and there we are, walking out on the pitch into the CL final. I had no false pretence that we stood a chance in this game, and merely enjoyed it for what it was. Even at 1-0, with 15 minutes left, I knew that a goal was all that was needed from Barcelona to change the game completely.

I'm not trying to sound more knowledgable than any other fan watching, it's just that I honestly never envisioned us winning, and simply enjoyed the occasion for what it was. To highlight the club's only ever appearance in the CL Final as the lowest point as being a fan is rather daft in my opinion. It sure as hell eclipses any moment in the club's history since then.

I have to say the moment Campbell got above the Barcelona defence and headed us in front in the Champions League Final was the greatest feeling I've ever had in my 17 years of following the Arsenal. Was in a pub outside the Stade de France after failing to get a ticket but still going out there. The pub was packed with Gooners and when Campbell scored it was the most incredible unforgettable moment.

To be honest that's exactly how it sounds...

We aren't saying the appearance was the lowest moment... LOSING the fucker with 15 minutes to go was the lowest moment... If you can't understand that I can't help you.

Hmm.... well, I'm not trying to sound like a bigger Arsenal fan than you ( ) but for Arsenal to come so, so close to winning the biggest trophy in club foootball, and then to have the dream ripped away from you... well, I was gutted :(

It was one of those occasions where, following it, I had no desire to watch, talk or read about football for weeks afterwards.

Proud of the club for finally reaching the biggest stage of club football.... proud of the players for their performance... but despite that, the way the game played out and the way we lost definately made for a very frustrating night, and was certainly a low moment.
