As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

I remember Vermaelen at Barnet last season looked awful against a 40yr old Paul Furlong.
Anyway Kos looked alright in the AC Milan game
Still hope there is a 1st choice centre back coming in anyway.
Agree with you - cannot judge any new player on pre season. Kos is actually quite pricey for a player with little top level experience and not very obvious qualities, so arsene and the scouts must have found something - hopefully like vermaalen.
But it is SUICIDAL to go into this season without an experienced defender. We have lost Gallas & Campbell - now that is a LOT of experience.

You might argue that experience breeds complacency.
I'm almost excited for the young up-and-comer. Like Vermaelen, I hope he plays with the heart and passion that Arsenal defenders were once famous for. Campbell thinks he's too good and Gallas is just a lazy, money-driven c*nt.
I think people should be a little less cynical, sure Kos is not ideal as a first-string CB considering it's his first year of EPL, but sometimes the young players are the ones who are willing to give everything they possibly have to try and bring their team glory. TV5 plays like that, and some of us are already asking for him to be captain... give LK6 a chance to do it too.

You might....but its largely bollocks

Come on - while we all hope for the best I think this highlights our problem - everything is about money to Arsenal, to its Board, even its supporters, and sometimes you well you have to pay for quality.

This might make sense if Koscieny were a mid-feilder converted to center back playing next to waorld-class defender in his prime as happened with Kolo being paired with Sol Campbell. Vermaelen is very very good but not yet at the level Sol was when Mr. Wenger put Toure out with him nor is the defensive help in front or in back of them now nearly as good as it was then, so its not quite as brilliant a move as we might hope I fear.
