Unfortunately the world and his wife don't run the team - Wenger does!!!

Either

Szczesney grows into the keeper we want, and Frimpong and Coquelin become the defensive midfielders we need, and Aneke, Afobe and Wellington Silva take care of attack, and we finish second or third, with a couple of cups, and with a helping of luck we win the league.

Or

We stay as we are and cling on to fourth.

Then Wenger retires and we see what happens.
Beyond the negative message it sends out that Arsenal - the once mighty Arsenal!! - are happy 'staying as we are and clinging on to fourth', that also presumes that other clubs won't catch up and then eventually over-take us in the interim.

:( Wenger constantly goes on about our young players BUT when is he going to start blooding them in the P/L.The other P/L sides have copied Wenger's use of the league cup for the reserves so it's now developing into ''The reserve P/L cup''and so grading them is pacified. He's using young Jack and so far he's successful but what about Lansbury,Thomas,Bartley or Watt?? is he going to keep loaning them out till there get impatient and leave?.

As far as i can see getting the C/L spot is priority and challenging 2nd and by the look of signings and the average players wenger persists in playing (on top class wages) expectations should be modified so not to disappoint.

If he brings too many in it might upset Denilson, Diaby and Bendnter and i think its there turn to clean out Wengers Hot tub.
Anyway think every room is taken at Wengers house. So it will take one heated argument in the house for any of those to walk out, especialy while they have a leauge going on with Peppa Pig on the wii

I do not think anyone at the club is "Happy" to cling to fourth place.

But I think they are realistic and know that until:

Stadium Bond is fully repaid

and

Commercial revenues increase

Which will both increase money we have to spend, we are doing fairly well on the money available.

Where we can improve, in non financial terms, is in the areas we have both mentioned on another thread:

- Better players for the money spent
- Better goalkeeping and defensive coaching and organisation
- Better Tactics/Substitutions
- Thorough review of medical/rehabilitation/fitness procedures in order to try and reduce large injury list
- Wait for introduction of amazing youth prospects in 16 - 18 age group, better than previous groups of youth players

In that case can someone at the club please get Wenger to stop spouting off about how this team is ready to win things/will win something, as he has done for the past two seasons or so? :banghead:

It only makes them and us look bad. Especially, as you sort of admit yourself, as they don't really believe it themselves!!

What Quartz I thought things would change when the financial fairplay rules go into effect> Which is it then? Or do you just say anything to defend the Board and preserve your afith in them because they are after Arsenal, the hell with that no man is bigger then the club crap - that's for players and managers., for mere mortals, not our God-Like Board of heroic Arsenal titans...

Seriously you contradict yourself constantly and make yourself look bad simply defend the honor of the Board. One monute its we'll spend more when the new stadium is paid, the next its when the fair play rules kick in. One minute its we're not spending because we have to pay off the stadium loan, the next its we're not spending because of Chelsea(which clearly implies we would be if not for Chelsea).

This my one problem with you - not that you passionately defend the Board but you have no real respect for the concept of making a logical or believable argument. We aren't in a courtroom where you throw up any and every theory possible solely to keep your client from going to prison because reasonable doubt is not the real standard here. You've done the same accusing me of being everything but Arsene Wenger's love child. You leave out key details in justifying arguments and calls them technicalities.

Just not cool. Certainly no cooler than my resolute stubornness is fighting on behalf of my beliefs. I'd say less cool in fact. I'm may be right or worng and I may annoy a lot of people in the process but I try do it in a manner I won't feel guilty about.

In a serious vein Quartz while I hope you are right about these youth prospects logic dictates maybe 1 or 2 will genuinely become stars straight away like Cesc. Another 1-2 will take 3-4 years to fulfill their potential like Theo is showing now, and several won't fulfill their potential at all.

The fact is more "can't-miss" prospects miss than make it, some altogther. To count on this group of youth players to be the nucleus on their own of this team in the future is basic folly. If we get 2-3 regulars in the squad we should be happy. I can say this because I have coached at that level in basketball. I've seen really good athletes fail to move past high school , and athletes you wouldn't expect to have a career in basketball.

Youth development is hardly an automatic science and counting on that as the sole or primary way forward is seriously risky. So I hope you aren't asking us to do that.

IHH

I have said on a few posts that much of what Wenger says these days is just PR talk, it is obvious to the world, his wife and their next door neighbour that we are not equipped to win the league this season.

USMartin

I think the financial fair play rules will help us too.

No contradiction, merely another thing that shows the clubs finances to be well in order over the long term.

So effectively you're saying that we the fans are being treated as fools by Wenger and the Board, right? And that's okay by you, yeah? :?

How will these rules help us if we are unwilling to spend any more money because most analysts suggest they won'rt stop soending by the big rich clubs much if at all for several years.

And yes it is a contradiction to suggest completely and irrelevant to one another reasons for nor not spending - at the very least its contradictory. Just because you say it isn't doesn't make it so. Look up the definition of contradiction or contradictory in a proper dictionary and tell me that's not apropos here.

who pay lots of money they can't necessarily afford to pay to them no less. Without us "fools" - especially the season ticket holders - Board members might actually have to use - SHOCK HORROR - their own money to pay for things at Arsenal.
