Do you have any evidence of that order, I mean I cannot comment because I don't know who occupy 2nd, 3rd and 4th. United are obviously top.Boomer wrote:You seemed to be focused on recent success with the Manc rather then where both of us were back in 2006.
We'd last won the league unbeaten in 2004
Year after that won the FA cup
Then in 2006 lost out on winning the UEFA Champions League.
About to venture into building a new 60K seater staduim of course the future looked bright back then.
In terms of global branding ManU top England.
Then Chelsea's Recent english success and touring the world has overtaking us.
Liverpool with there history are 3rd.
If we're talking club rankings than Liverpool will of course beat us but then Chelsea fall behind.
Value of shirt sponsorship

You're right!Iceman29 wrote:I did forget about that but nobody remembers the losers except for the losers and everyone remembers the winners. Being 10 mins from winning it is not the same as winning it. Apart from the spark of reaching the CL final in 2006 it was all down hill from there. I doubt the sponsorship deal would've been signed on the eve of the finalhighburyJD wrote:er WTF are you talking about?!?!?!Iceman29 wrote:We were competing for jack in 2006.
forgotten a CL final perchance...
being in the lead with 10 mins to go in the worlds biggest club game is pretty much def competing for something
The deal was signed in 2004!

The deal was signed early ready to start in 05/06.

The PL doesn't only determine that but the CL as well and Liverpool have done pretty well on that front. They had some very good players back then which included the likes off Patrick Berger, Xabi Alonso, Michael Owen, Steve McManaman. They also won a cup treble which is a pretty decent achievement and gain you a number of fansgoonersid wrote:I still don't think they will have tapped into the far east and asian market, the way Arsenal have been able to. The fact is that since the Premiership was put on the Global stage by Sky, the mousers haven't won it and have only challenged seriously on maybe 2 occasions, not the sort of form that would have a new breed of youngsters abroad choosing them as "their team"Iceman29 wrote:Just because they have been struggling for the past couple of years doesn't make them a lesser brand. They have won the European Cup 5 times and did a cup treble not so long ago. Liverpool FC will always be one of the great clubs of world football because of what they have achieved.goonersid wrote:Can't agree with that, the mousers aren't the the brand they once were. Would be interested to see overall profits made from shirt sales, including overseas.(if someone can dig it up) I would be amazed if the victims now had a big overseas market.RNTGOONER wrote:In reality what do you think our sponsorship should be?
I reckon it should be 3rd highest behind victim fc and manure, they probably both have a higher international draw; even if the victims are toilet right now.
Also a severe lack of high profile players in that time, when Arsenal and Utd have had the likes of Bergkamp, TH14, Cantona, Ronaldo and Beckham. The mousers have had no one of that calibre or as instantly recognisable. And I include Gerard and Torres as not being of that ilk.

Also Sid's right. Liverpools brand (even by these figures show) that they're in decline.

I'm no accountant but there is no year on year money.Iceman29 wrote:In cash terminology yes but not in accounting terminologyBoomer wrote:It is, the figure should read £0Mflash gunner wrote:£5.5million a season does seem laughable but because it is tied in the the Stadium sponsorship i think this figure is misleading
That's right but from an accounting point of view the upfront payment is amortised over the period of the sponsorship agreement. AFC cannot recognise the entire payment as income when they received it in year 1.Boomer wrote:I'm no accountant but there is no year on year money.Iceman29 wrote:In cash terminology yes but not in accounting terminologyBoomer wrote:It is, the figure should read £0Mflash gunner wrote:£5.5million a season does seem laughable but because it is tied in the the Stadium sponsorship i think this figure is misleading

I could be wrong about this, but I'm sure I recall when the name of the new stadium was first announced that 'Emirates' got it (the naming rights for the stadium) for what in essence is a pittance - (£15 mill for the first 10 years - with an option when the first 10 years are up) - Now THAT I would say is us being well and truly shafted ... I recall that the financial crunch had just begun to rear its ugly head and the club were desparate for wonga ...........bunch wrote:I would have guessed that our shirt sponsorship is tied into the Stadium naming rights as well. Is the 5.5m per year just notional apportionment of a wedge that the club has got/gets from the airline.
Dunno, just a guess. Having the name on the stadium must cost them a decent amount of money.
I would hope that once the ground is paid for - It can be (re)named and reclaimed properly not after some commercial enterprise...but after the Club/Team name.

Carlsberg sure got their timing right on that one, though they missed a Golden Ad Campaign opportunity when they were the sponsors- when the bin dippers did their famous come back in the CL Final - Carlsberg could have used thatRVP2 wrote:I guess Standard Chartered are regretting their choice of sponsorship big time!
