What world class managers can the victims attract?Sutch wrote:Owners have fucked up again here for me, a club like Liverpool could attract a world class manager yet they opt for a manager who finished below them in the table. I don't care what anyone says, going for lower table managers is in my opinion just penny pinching for a cheaper manager's wage. Would United appoint Pardew? Would City appoint Moyes? Do not go for managers who have consistently finished below your own team.
Brendan Rodgers' career. RIP

Maybe world class was OTT... still they could do better.

This logic is rather babatundish, queen kenny spent 100m to be a grand total of 2 league places ahead of Swansea. For my money Brendan Rodgers has done the better job there.Sutch wrote:Owners have fucked up again here for me, a club like Liverpool could attract a world class manager yet they opt for a manager who finished below them in the table. How long was Rodgers at Swansea? How long did it take for them to get promoted under his reign? I think he's a good manager, but I don't think he's good enough to take Liverpool back to a top four side again. If they signed three world class players they would have a realistic hope of getting 4th but IMO you have to have a great manager as well.LDB wrote:This logic is rather babatundish, queen kenny spent 100m to be a grand total of 2 league places ahead of Swansea. Edit - Just seen he got Swansea promoted in his first season, fair enough.
Re: Brendan Rodgers' career. RIP
Wow - I am pretty surprised about how many people don't rate Rodgers on here. I reckon that he will do better than Daglish would have. I was gutted when he got sacked because Liverpool were God awful with him at the helm. He will have have to replace some key players soon, but probably not until next season - then we could see some inexperience come in, but until then, he will probably finish top six with that team - they really underperformed this year.
Re: Brendan Rodgers' career. RIP
Speaking on my own behalf I will say that it isnt that I dont rate rodgers but I do believe that if it was a straight choice between him and martinez then I would have opted for martinez every day of the week and twice on a sunday.
That being said I do believe that the victims could have done a lot lot better - you have a club that has a high profile worldwide and owners who are prepared to back the club financially so they could def have attracted a proven quality manager although not one from the very highest tier obviously.

This is basically what I meant except I should have used a term other than world class. Rodgers would be good at a team like Everton or Stoke, for a club as globally big who were European champions seven years ago, CL Finalists five years ago, title challengers three years ago, FA Cup finalists this year, they should be aiming higher.augie wrote:Speaking on my own behalf I will say that it isnt that I dont rate rodgers but I do believe that if it was a straight choice between him and martinez then I would have opted for martinez every day of the week and twice on a sunday.

Re: Brendan Rodgers' career. RIP
personally i think Martinez is overrated. Martinez has managed to get Wigan to concede 9 goals against tottenham, countless others in games. Swansea haven't been smashed yet.
I do believe Rodgers will turn out to be a fine manager.
