Dear United Fans...

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

rob admin. ur wrong the business model isnt working beutifally and we are not selling prize assets to make a massive profit.

thats the most common misconception around.

we dont make huge profits. we make small profits and that is only yhr case when u take into account player trading. (i mean selling)

if we didnt make big money on sales every year we would not turn a profit, we would turn a significant loss.
imo this completely undermines our model. the model is crap it really is. if it were good, we would be turning a profit excluding play tradfing activity. i dont believe we do.

it only works if we sell. by following this model we will only ever be a mid size selling club. the only way to compete in this day and age is with a sugardaddy.

some selected quotes from posters on redcafe.

I still can't believe we actually have him. What a coup considering it was from dealing with a bitter rival

This is an amazing signing for us and to be honest, I think the new 4 rival the 4 strikers we had in 99

Van Persie + Kagawa for less than £40 million, that's some damn good value

I still can't get my head around the fact we have signed him.

Just consider we signed Van Persie and Kagawa (Combined 54 goals + 25 assists last season), for £5 million more than Andy Carroll was sold the season before.

And then these two just killed it for me. Ouch

all the gooners calling him mercenary....think about how many loyal years he gave the club....and over the last 7 years he has been frustrated with the lack of trophies.

He could have easily joined City. Instead he choose to join a proper club who can fulfill his ambition.

Don't see what all the fuss is about with Arsenal fans. We sold them Silvestre. A world class defender with 5 prem medals on the cheap, and helped sort them out. Now they're crying when a player whose won nothing for 7 years wants to join one of the best club sides ever.

Dear United Fans.

I loved the rivalry between our clubs before the Armageddon of Football that was Abramovich. While our team imploded and our Board went into civil war your club still managed to attract the best footballers and you managed to stop Chelsea in their quest for domination all paid for by a mad billionaire.
Sport is sport and if 2 clubs in the league have endless finances while all the others have to earn their cash then it is no longer sport.
What Arsenal should have done is to try and stay in touch with yourselves and although we dont make the same money you do we are doing very nicely thankyou due to the amazing loyal fanbase that Arsenal have.
In your signing of our very best player we have proved that we are a nowhere club and no longer should be considered as a force in football. Just think if we play you and Giroud is injured then you will face the mighty Chamakh. Anyway you won 8v2 last season so I am sure you wont lose any sleep.
In passing think that at least Arsenal made your team even better until we started to die in 2007. If we get rid of this yank bastard we may be reborn but not anytime soon.
PS All the injury he has had we probably give him an extra year at the very top of his game.

Spot on

We waved the white flag when Abramovich came along and hid behind the we cant compete they have too much money line while United competed and took them on and beat them.I have said it before and will keep saying it its all down to the manager.Ferguson is a winner Wenger gave that up a long time ago.

Maybe, but its also true United are massively in debt, as shown by the float on the NYSE to help pay off some of it.
Then it turns the Yanks trouser half the return and the club gets nowhere near what they were expecting.
The United board have already stated that for the near future this will be the last of their big spending summers.
Whats to say once Fergie retires in a couple of years they could find themselves ina bit of a mess???????

This was a bad move, the club has to respond now.

It's not ALL down to the managers though is it? Ferguson is a phenomenal manager and he is peerless in the domestic game, and yes Wenger has undoubtedly many faults. Thing is, no matter how complicit you think he is in prioritising the balance sheet over the welfare of the team, there is no situation in which we could go out and spend anything like United do. The big cash cow is the CL and they crashed out in the groups, yet so far they've spent £35-40m without recouping anything this summer, as they have done regularly. Say what you will about money we've wasted on poor transfers and player wages, but we simply can't afford to do that whatever way you look at our finances.

Even when we were rivalling/bettering United, we relied on better scouting and coaching networks because we simply couldn't match them in terms of financial muscle. The reality was, 10-15 years ago if United weren't in for a player or he didn't want to go there, we'd be first on the list because nobody else was hugely bettering us in terms of wages and we were the best footballing team alongside them. Then Abramovich and later various Arabs came along and rode roughshod over that, players that would probably never have come to the PL (and certainly not Arsenal) like Robinho and co were attracted by non-footballing reasons, and have continued to be ever since.

I don't want to sound like I'm spewing out the same garbage as the board but basically there are three mini-leagues financially: Chelsea and City who can do what they want; United who are cemented into an untouchable commercial position and can still compete with the other two on one-off transfers; and everybody else who has to operate within the normal parameters of economics. I'm not saying that the club hasn't lost direction or that Wenger hasn't made mistakes, but to say the difference is only down to the managers is bollocks.

NASRI left and won the title so lets hope RVP does it too. you can't blame the players, they are bing driven out of the club because of a lack of ambition from the board downwards.

it might take RVP being a success at United for Arsenal supporters to realise what mugs they are being by continuing to fund an American billionaire who does not give a shit about the club.
Look! I know you are a WUM and enjoy fishing for conflictorial re-actions, But.......Many Gooners have followed The Arsenal since their early childhood (me included) and to NOT go and see them or support them..is totally alien. It is in our blood, so what are we expected to do ? btw: this doesn't just apply to The Arsenal - But to many, many fans of football clubs. Those that own/run the clubs 'know full well' the importance of the team/club in our lives and manipulate and take advantage of that 'loyalty'.

What some people do not seem able to grasp is that they (the club a fan follows regardless) are like family, and it is so painful to stand by and see them become less than what they truly are (and in our present case - becoming so much less that what we could so easily be "Champions" - and uneccessarily so. It's a bit like watching a family member crash and burn, and as much as you try to advise and help and Support them....the situation goes from bad to worse....

So Please think before you write, maybe if you write it out in crayons first and then get mummy to type it out for you, you'll find people on here being a little less hostile..

Okier dokies!? *word censored*.

It's okay, he masturbates to what he posts all the time, then goes and cries in the corner while eating a tub of Hagen-Daas.

What a moron.

Only at Arsenal would we vilify someone who scored 37 goals last season.

Same as Nasri... "Money grabber, blah, blah, blah". Oh, title winner as well.

There is no such thing as loyalty in football anymore. Hasn't been for years. Get over it.

Again, what a moron.
This 100%. :barscarf:

I was more upset when Frank Stapleton joined them.
