A ridiculous nonsensical signing - is wenker bringing in a genuine competitor for chesney's number 1 position in the hope that it might help raise chesney's game ? Is it more likely that he is brought in to be back up to the back up ? Why would the 3rd choice italian keeper come here to be 3rd choice behind our poles ? Why would arsole sign an international keeper if he didnt want him to challenge for the number 1 spot ? Would flaps accept it if the italian was instilled above him in the pecking order ? If wenker wanted a challenger to chesney then why not cesar ? Is he prioritising cheaper wages over ability and quality ? If that is the case then doesnt that make a mockery of the notion that signing ozil is going to spark a bright new dawn for AFC ?
Maybe we will get a clearer picture next week when we see who is on the bench v the mackems but this signing for me raises more questions than answers
Cesar is reportedly on 80k a week and doesn't want to take a pay cut. Also no guarantee that he will outperform Szczesny and to be honest his style is unsuitable to this league.
I'm happy with Szczesny as our number 1. All he needs is competition to keep him on his toes and hopefully in Viviano he'll have that.
Why does Szczesny "need" competition? The best keepers around are nearly always guaranteed their place in the side (even if they were to have a woeful few months) but Schmeichel, Cech, Casillas etc didn't lose motivation and focus and dick around like Szczesny just because they weren't playing for a place in the side. If the chance to play for a massive club at his age and develop/shape his future career isn't enough to keep him challenged then he's in the wrong profession.
Even at £80k/w I'd have snapped Cesar up on a two-year deal given how desperate QPR were to get rid. £2m + £80k/w equates to just over £6m + £40k/w over the 2 years.
Anyway money wasn't the reason we didn't sign Cesar, it's because Szczesny is one of Wenger's chosen few who is given far too much protection. Exactly the same reason why we didn't sign Lloris, who would have jumped off the page to Wenger if he was willing to consider signing a keeper. He's been poor for the last season and a half but still his position as #1 remains unchallenged.
Because he's young and immature. Players at his age tend to be inconsistent for that very reason and unfortunately for him being a GK, if he makes a mistake the knives are out, whereas for a young outfield player they go largely ignored as their mistakes don't end up directly affecting the team in a negative way, i.e. conceding a goal.
Until he grows a bit older and grows out of that immaturity, the wise thing to do is to keep him on his toes and get proper competition in to push him. He also strikes me as the sort of character who gets too comfortable and loses focus when under pressure. Flappy and Mannone were simply no competition in his eyes. And when he got dropped for Flappy last year, we all saw how it gave him the kick up the arse he needed, as he performed very well in last season's final stretch.
Let's not forget that he's 22 years old and is nowhere near his prime as a GK. He'll be in his peak in 10 years' time.
Personally I like him; he's very talented, he's brave, commanding and a fantastic shot stopper. A great character as well who seems to have grown a real affinity for the club as seen by his obvious hatred of the scum.
I like how lots of people know that Cesar is better then Viviano without ever having seen Viviano play. Imo Cesar is erratic at best. I can guarantee if we'd signed Cesar people would be moaning about how nobody else was in for him therefore he is past it.

Not that it is conclusive proof that he is better than vivian, but just 3 years ago cesar was voted the best keeper in europe Right now he is brazil's number one keeper. He has some experience of playing in england. All of these facts would suggest that he would be a better bet than vivian but the biggest reason that I would prefer cesar is that I still have high hopes for chesney - cesar is the right age and has the right level of experience to help chesney in the short term thus suggesting that chesney would be in a great position to claim that NO.1 spot for himself in 2 years time and be our keeper for years to come

Frankly it's not actually that important how good Viviano is because Wenger has confirmed what we could all have guessed - he's been brought in as cover and not to actually play.

EDIT: Ooops, 5.
whisper it but Szczesny did let 8.
At least Chesney had the consolation of those two hotties holding the banner aloft

That wasn't an important match though was it ?
We had already won our most important game of the season.
I still point back to the signing of viviano as being the most nonsensical signing wenker has made in the past decade People mocked the signing of inamoto and suggested that it was a marketing move but at least there was some plan behind it........why the fcuk did we sign this guy ?

Eh? more nonsensical than Park?
We signed a 3rd choice 'keeper on loan. I can't say that concerns me too much.
Now Park there's a weird signing! ... bloody hell, we needed a striker and Wenger signed this guy! told us all he was top quality, then told us he had an adaption period, then loaned him out, then let him rot in the reserves. He's still only ever made one sub appearance in the league, hasn't he? bonkers!!!
