Give flappy a new contract (DB10 jerking thread)

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Just because he made a couple of saves at Wembley doesn't warrant a new contract. He's been a liability for most of his Arsenal career and so we're best rid of him asap.

Do you honestly think he's made more mistakes than Fabianski would have this year? No love-in, just pragmatism.

Especially considering that if Flappy was playing every week and teams realised how shit he was in the air teams would start targeting that and we'd ship in twice as many goals. Like when he came in at the end of 2009/10 and both Blackburn and Wigan capitalised because they realised that he couldn't deal with a cross straight at him if he was under pressure and both grabbed wins from that. It ruined Paul Robinson at Spurs and he is a far better keeper than Flappy.

He has conceded one goal in open play during the cup run.

Chesney is a much bigger liability. He is not a big game player.
Think of all the big losses in recent years - this clown has been in goal for all of them.
Short memory?

The guy has cost us more goals than any other 'keeper I can care to remember.
Sure not as many as Almunia.

He could have cost us badly on Saturday but didnt , I wish him well in his new Job as I'm sure he can get a good contract somewhere else now but u have to joking about a new contract at Arsenal 'cos for 50 k a week u can get a real one .

We do need a quality Goalkeeper to replace Chez who isnt good enough for a team with title aspirations ,which is exactly why he is our No1 choice !

It's funny that Goalkeepers improve dramatically when playing for something !

I remember Leman being much improved in the season b4 the World Cup in Germany !

Stop cos you are just embarrassing yourself now  Most on here dont believe that chesney is good enough for a title winning team (I'm not sure tbh but he is def better than mignolet) but flaps doesnt deserve a new contract on non league wages much less a significant contract at a club as big as ours  I really worry about the short term goldfish memory of some that only seem to remember the last couple of games

No, deffo not a new contract. I'd play him in the FA Cup final ahead of Calamity Chesney because Chesney is odds on to turn up with that cocky arrogant fucking smile on his face and drop a clanger like he did against Brum. Accepted, Kos was partly to blame for that too, but Chesney had that cocky smile on him all that day, and was the bigger culprit in that a keeper should control his box and his defenders. Over a season, Chesney is the better keeper, there is no doubt about that, but in a one-off big game like a cup final Chesney is prone to something really stupid. I'd give the berth to Flappy and then wish him well on his way in June. Flappy has done well in the cup and his confidence must be high, but whereas Chesney loses the plot with arrogance when his confidence is high, Flappy seems to be able to control it.

Chesney should be no more than back up to a better keeper IMHO. Another position that Wenger hasn't invested in properly.

Another player in category let's wish for the best. We need better goalkeeper as number one and maybe Ches as a back up. Good bye Flappy.

That mad dash rush out summed up what we've seen too often of Flappy. One good swalow of a day doesnt make a Summer, which is why he needs to be off then, shame he isnt being sold though :rubchin:

That being said the substitute goalkeeper role is always a difficult one to fill, injuries happen less so theres less guarentee of games than any other fall back position. Ches wasnt good v The Chavs away but he has turned in some stirling performances this season, hes the best weve had since Lehmann surely?

Be careful what we wish for we could get an Almunier

No and in any case whatever we think of him, I can't see him staying unless he's offered the No. 1 shirt which will not happen. What we really need is an older experienced back-up for Szczęsny.

give him the number 1 shirt then.
seriously this club isn't going to buy anyone better and we are currently letting the wrong polish goalkeeper leave.

look at how poorly Chesney plays in big matches.
look at how Fabianksi played v Munich this season and also remember how he kept a clean sheet in the win in Munich last season. he also contributed to our winning run towards the end of last season before getting injured.

this season he has starred in 2 penalty shoot out wins (v WBA and Wigan) and helped in cup wins over Everton, Liverpool and Spurs. look how many goals Cheseny conceded in games v Everton and Liverpool.

yes he has kept a few clean sheets in the easy league games but that isn't going to win us anything. that has been proved this season in the league.

Christ alive, no. Replace Szczesny? Maybe, but to promote Flappy to No 1 would be utter madness.

Have to agree.

I'd start Flappy in the final for the reasons I listed but over the course of a whole season as number one he would get us relegated!
