Gunner Rob wrote:do you reckon City might lend us a striker for when they play us in a couple of weeks time?
it does seem a bit unfair that they have Aguero, Dzeko and Jovetic whereas our main striker is now Sanogo WHO HAS YET TO SCORE A COMPETITIVE GOAL FOR US!!!!!!!!!
The issue we have now is that the striker we need in the squad is in the Cavani (dream) or Remy (more likely) mould.
I cant think of many known strikers available that do "Girouds job" - hold up play, link play, be a focal point, hold the ball up, defend set plays etc - all of which he does very, very well.
Wenger wont by another "Giroud" type - he see's Sanogo has the cover for that role. Therefore even if we go and buy a striker it wont replace Giroud - thats why this is such a huge loss to us if we continue to set up as we do.
Gunner Rob wrote:this is where the AKB's will go into defensive mode and say stuff like "no one could have predicted that Giroud would be out for 3 months"
Tbh thank god it has happened now and not after the window closes (or at any point after it did last year)
Wenger has nowhere to hide on this. He might publically claim that we have five players that can play there but none of Walcott, Alexis, Campbell or Podolski can play as a lone striker in our system. They don't have the 'back to goal' ability to bring the midfielders into the game or the physical strength to hold off their markers (or win the thing in the air). He admitted Giroud gave us something we lacked in the first half against Everton and the same will be said every time we play away to a bigger side where there is an even greater need for someone to hold up the ball. Anyway he's admitted Alexis isn't ready physically for that, Walcott won't be fully fit for weeks / months, Podolski he doesn't fancy one bit and Campbell is totally unproven at this level.
That leaves either Postman Yaya or a new signing. If he opts for the former he leaves himself wide open for any abuse that falls out from its highly likely failure. He got lucky with Giroud's injuries last year but might not this year

compared with sanogo, yes.
compared with cavani/falcao...no
It's simple - if you only have rice, and you get fucked off with having rice every day, but someone takes it away and doesn't replace the rice then yes - you miss it.
I say bite the bullet and go for Jackson Martinez.
Failing that go for Remy, who has the advantages of being able to also play left midfield, already living in London, speaking English and Premier League experience though his wages will be high.
