Chav$ to win PL at AG? / Atmos at Highbury

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Atmosphere was incredible, Northbank absolutely rammed, not like nowadays with day trippers, corporates and foreign tourists...
you did not need Red action to get people singing.....

Was that the day Pele walked around the pitch?
Thats it mate, to a chorus of "sign him up"

Was a great day for Arsenal fans, we celebrated on the Pitch as if we had won the league...Halycon days
I wasn't there but was that the day when both sets of supporters had a pitch invasion at Highbury?
I think we finished 3rd as a result of beating Villa?

to be fair it seemed a great achievement at the time - if we finish 3rd this year the reaction will be more muted - perhaps differing expectations these days?

Yes thats it thousands of fans split by police down the half way line, Villa were given the whole clock end, to be fair Arsenal fans were on the Pitch first and police drove them back to allow Villa to celebrate, as i say the atmosphere was electric and to my knowledge thats the only time anyone has won the league at Arsenals ground, do i miss Highbury, that place was part of my life.

If they stay on the same form (11 points dropped in the last ten) and we win out (including beating them), we win the league by a point.

That's the size of the task ahead. It's very unlikely but oh my, would it be amazing if it came off.

We did finish 3rd that season but it was not secured that day as west brom had a game in hand
They needed to win at leeds to go above us but drew 0-0
We had already secured a uefa cup place before this game
It was Nottingham forest who missed out

Last two years the league has been there for the taking. Such a shame.

They've been rubbish ever since 2004. I refuse to acknowledge any of the title winners since :D

Just had a quick look and we've still got 5 games afterwards so Chavs would have to go 16+ points clear of us with a win to actually be crowned. They would have to beat QPR and United and for us to lose at Burnley beforehand - plus if City win two out of United, West Ham (h) and Villa (h) they couldn't technically win it at our place anyway.

You're right. There's a lot riding on our game at the weekend. If we lose to Burnley, then Chelsea beat QPR and United, they'll win the league by beating us at our place. If we beat Burnley there's nothing to worry about.

The Villa game was unique in that we needed a win to ensure European football and Villa were going for the championship.
In a rare move Arsenal made the clock end all ticket 20,000 and all given to Villa which ensured a bumper crowd .
Our stupid manager was quoted in the papers saying if Villa won the league they should be allowed to celebrate on the pitch ,Nice one terry ! ! !
We decided they shall not get away with that and all displaced clock end mob packed the West stand lower tier terrace.

Dennis Hillwood the then Chairman and a great man was against advertising at Highbury as he felt it lowered the tone of the place.
So the ATARI was a test case , they were allowed a Total of four banners on the East and West Stands and nothing pitch side at all.
Atari brought Pele on , their microphones didn't work but it mattered not , as soon as Pele's bonce was clocked in the glass case the crowd went ape-shit and he had to do a lap of honour to a rapturous ovation from all sides of the ground, I think even the great Pele was taken aback at the love shown to him that day .

So we are winning 2-0 and I cant remember who scored but suddenly the Villa end is alive and Ipswich have blown it leaving Villa as Champs but before they could hit the pitch Arsenal stormed it from West stand in their thousands and the OB had to push as back to allow Villa on .

Was a great day and a fun night , I met 2 Villa lads b4 the game in the Plimsol and we told em to meet us in the Tavern afterwards , a great night down Jock Macdonalds studio 21 and I ended up in a railway siding at 5 am with a villa scarf on.
We kept in touch with the Villa lads for years and i ended up going out with one of ems sister for a while !
On Saturday nights we'd go to the belfry and take the piss out of the Villa players who always seemed to be there !

As for the chavs I really dont want them lording it at the emirates so we need to beat the fuckers even more than usual !
Its a tall ask !
