Keane didn't give a shit about what happened to Haaland, he just wanted to inflict maximum violence on him, regardless of the consequences.

There is no urban myth here - Keane's act did bring Haaland's career to an early end, even though Haaland tried to make a come-back (wouldn't you?). What Keane (and Haaland) didn't know was that Haaland's career was going to end early anyway. You seem to have a very simplistic sense of these things - either Haaland's career stopped the moment Keane did him or Haaland's career continued regardless and Keane is innocent.

In the real world: Keane fouled Haaland in April 2001; the nature and extent of the injury weren't immediately apparent; the severity of the injury, and the need for surgery, were realised after the game; Keane played a few more times for City before giving in to the reality that he wasn't going to overcome his various injuries and retired in 2003.

I'd like to see proof for your suggestion that Haaland played more than 50 games after April 2001. I don't have my official guide (the old Rothmans) to hand now but I doubt your figures are even remotely accurate.

On the matter Keane said in his Book

I wrote this in my first answer to you: "Keane's foul was to Haaland's right-leg but that caused the damage to Haaland's left-leg because it caused the knee to rotate violently." The consultants who examined Haaland confirmed that the damage to his left-knee was caused by Keane's challenge, even though he made contact with Haaland's right-leg.

Why are you having such trouble accepting this?
