The Irish have held a proper referendum - 66% majority needed for victory.
The Brexit referendum was only an advisory referendum which is why only a 50.1% majority was required. It is also why it doesn’t need to be implemented.
Are you having a laugh pal....you'd probably be happier if it was an 85% majority for everything you believe in.
no not really, just putting forward a reasonable point of view.
Reasonable from your perspective only...........you'd have been quite happy with a 50.1% majority win for Remain and that would have been that as far as the EU question was concerned. My original post was about the Irish referendum and democracy surely has to be reflected by the majority not the minority as that is kind of what democracy is about. You just wanted a 2 goal start for your team to try and make sure you won - not sure I buy into that idea
not at all. in fact it was Nigel Farage who said in May 2016 that a narrow win for Remain could well lead for calls for a second referendum. He said that "in a 52-48 referendum this would be unfinished business by a long way"

no doubt the Leavers would have kept campiagning so why are you so dismissive of Remainers continuing to campaign ?

all this "will of the people" bollocks. the EU referendum was nothing of the sort.
basically the rich elite and the right wing press have conned some of the poorest in society into believing that they would be better off with Brexit.
the lies were swallowed and that's how there was a tiny leave majority. there is no real appetite for Brexit and that is why the government has no idea how to implement it.

As I said I was interested in the Irish referendum and got a bit of feedback on it but thanks for your thoughts on the whole EU thing which I couldn't really give a toss about. Love your use of the expression "tiny leave majority" is that the same as a majority or is it something completely different :rubchin:

Only difficult for you pal. I know what the thread is and having reviewed the options so as not to fall foul of the mods apologised for going off topic first - basic etiquette! Read the post

I wasn't really too fussed which way the EU referendum went but after reading your posts on here I'm beginning to think that the UK voted the right way. You appear to be on the losing side....that's not too difficult either is it :rubchin:

I think most of the people that voted to leave knew what they wanted from Brexit, the problem seems to be that Our elite politicians wont give it to us. Advisory or not a promise was made by the then prime minister which the Present incumbent seems unwilling to keep..

It was never made clear what Brexit actually meant which is what I have been trying to say in recent posts.

As a result it is impossible to implement, which is why I have always maintained that it won’t happen.

its quite funny really all you Leavers getting all pompous about voting for Brexit and how you knew what you were voting for etc etc.
what you still don't seem to get TWO years on is that Brexit still hasn't happened, and it still isn't clear what it is actually going to look like.
why are you not protesting about this ?

it just seems to me as part of the "losing" side that you are not really that bothered about what Brexit will actually look like, you are just happy to say you were on the "winning" side.
Wrong again Rob you make sweeping assumptions based on nothing.
I said long time ago that even if the vote was to leave and that it was what I wanted ,that it would never happen or would be watered down as to mean nothing ,ask mr nut flush ,we had a few run ins on the subject .
There is no political will for it because the powers that be who fund all political parties dont want it .

no different to the sweeping assumptions you make

look you are being proved correct and so am I.
as I say it was never established what Brexit was going to look like, and so it therefore could never be implemented.

a referendum should never have been given to the UK people because it is far too complex an issue for most people to understand (myself included)
I know Brexiters do go on and on and say that they knew full well what they were voting for. NO YOU DIDN'T because it is still not clear what Brexit might look like.

We were all too ignorant, too lied to, too manipulated by media, too encouraged to believe the failings of domestic politics were someone else’s fault, and too hypnotised by abstracts such as “sovereignty” “taking back control”, “red, white and blue Brexit”. Deceits dressed up as patriotism.

I thought that you Brexiters said that we could do trade deals easily with the USA ? This affects the UK too you know ?
Better to be part of the EU standing up to the US rather than isolated and impoverished I would have thought.

I said we have never had a trade deal with the usa ,which is true !
You keep chanting the re-moaner mantras without knowing what they mean ,a common theme throughout the so called Brexit debates .
The IMF,Worldbank, and all the rich and privileged must love having bourgeoisie cretins like you do their dirty work ! :blah:
