FULHAM HOME GAME

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

I'd take Lauren any day over santos! (even on the opposite flank Lauren would have done a better job).
I'd take just about anyone over Santos tbh! Lauren wasn't that great, certainly not in the same league as Ashley Cole and probably the least talented of the Invincibles but he knew how to be part of a solid defence.

It's difficult to say whether any of our current crop have that in them, because we could have just about any four defenders in world football and in our 'system' they'd still be shambolic. For me Sagna is fucking quality and there are very few people I would rather have playing right-back, he would slot right into any defence. Not sure about the rest.
This!

We had a discussion in the pub after the game yesterday. A mate of mine said "If you could sign a 'World Beater' in any position what would it be?"

All of my mates said a DM or CB. I said Striker. Basically because it makes no difference who we have in the defensive positions because all AW cares about is scoring more goals than the opposition. We have a guy that has over 90 caps for Germany. A seasoned international pro with 40 caps in Vermaelen. Probably the best right back in Europe and we still are an utter shambles. It makes no difference who plays in our defence - we'll still defend like a pub team.

It's not to do with a lack of a decent DM it's the fucking 'system' and philosophy of the club.

Agree, Wenger, the hasbeen, used to be lauded for his coaching skills, nowadays, all he does is coach the life out of players, (so they regress) like some kind of footballing dracula, someone needs to approach him when he's asleep and drive a corner flag into his heart and put him out of his misery.
