Our refusal to sign a top quality defensive midfielder is exactly why players like rvp are questioning the ambition of the club - if we are serious about winning things again, especially the league, then this is a position that we simply must upgrade in the summer transfer window
Scrolled down page 1 - Augie hasn't commented. Scrolled down page 2 - Is Augie gonna be tempted to join in?......Page 3?

Stood there last night I could only applaud how Song seems to have upped his game by 200%. Now isn't the time to analyse his good and bad. Let's just agree that in the face of criticism from 99% of us he has turned it around and was Man of the Match and hope he can continue this form.
Well said E.W.?

The thing he's improved most is his passing. When he came into the team first, he's passing was careless, rushed and more often than not straight to the opposition. Now though he's composed on the ball and waits for the right pass to be on before playing it. Alex Song is without doubt the most improved player I've ever seen at Arsenal. Well done son!!!

Song has improved in the last month but judge him over the whole season. He was crap before christmas and no one can deny that.

Previous posts have compared him to PV4.C"mon lets get real.

Keep Song in the team next season if you want the club to finish 4th again sign a top quality DM if you want us to challenge next season

Don’t wanna get carried away cos in the first leg & against Wigan he was poor at best. But he was good last night (admittedly against a pretty accommodating Villareal midfield) & he’s made a bigger improvement than I would ever have thought possible for him.

He’s earned the right to be first choice alongside Cesc but the jury’s out until the end of the season & even if he maintains last night’s form I’d still want a top class CM brought in this summer. Arsenal should never settle for “decentâ€

Hats of to him, I thought he was excellent last night and the fact that he is still young and can improve further fills me with confidence. to say that he is the answer is slightley premature though. the reason i like song is because he is naturally defensive so will automatically cover the required positions... what concerns me is what he does in those positions. Prior to the last few games, he was too slow to make a challenge, now perhaps he is too eager. he occassionally commits himself too early and quite often gets turned and leaves the defence exposed. what was amazing about paddy was, in those positions he would quite often stand still and let them run at him and he would stick out a leg and win the ball. as song doesn't have paddy's physique he cannot do that and relies too heavily on knocking a player over to win the ball!! that said, once his positional play improves and he grows in stature and confidence, hopefully he'll be able to dominate, as well as hastle. one thing that can be said about him is that he's not afraid to get stuck in, which is, unfortunately, where Diaby loses out. Diaby is stronger in most departments but as correctly stated in an above post, his instinct is to attack which means cesc is forced to cover.

i hope song gets a run in the team from now until the end of the season and maybe then we can judge him because it's too early now. Look at Senderos... when he came into the team he was amazing and now...

song had a good match but...there was no REAL problem for him, senna and cazorla absences...massive games approching, want to see him playing against carrick, lampard, essien, gerrard and many others good players...if he always plays in this way he can be new vieira, new every-thing-he-wants...but after...yesterday not a really probe test for him...

what a player he looks all of a sudden! he looks more like Vieira everytime he plays! A midfield dynamo is what we've been needing for a long time and Song seems to be cutting it.

Absolutely couldn't agree more.

Whilst it is true that he has been far improved over the last few games, I still say it's a sorry state of affairs when the Arsenal have to play someone like him in midfield - when we're at full strength!

I'd love to be proved wrong and for him to enjoy flamini esque levels of improvement, but it's not gonna happen. A world class defensive midfielder has to be our priority in the summer

If by "cutting it", you mean a great big lump of cocaine into easy to snort lines of white gold every saturday, spot on.

lol. i just think he needs abit more time. we'd be well gutted if he left in search of first team football and turned out to be the dogs bollocks.

diarra springs to mind...although i say that, he did come across as a bit of a twat.

Nothing wrong with coming across a bit of a twat! Nothing at all.

Oh that is just wasted in the early hours in a small forum like this.

That gag deserves to be on TV. One of the best I've heard on here.
