As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Probably though due to the fact that we haven't got an end as such like at most of the other grounds where all the more vocal fans can congregate.
Totally agree with that! The stadium designers totally ignored the fans, and obviously were preoccupied with designing their lovely club level
The stadium needed a North Bank... sadly, it'll never happen now
stg wrote:So how do you define a touristy fan then?
Someone who dont give a fuck about the club, come to the game so they can tell there friends they have been to an arsnal match, spend all there time taking photo's to prove this and show off to there friends. Usually turn up late and go home early and dont actually care weather we win or lose aslong as they see lots of goals.
So you look down your nose at tourists even though you and the mrs were out for a day trip, makes sense.

If you gave a fuck about the club mate you'd realise we need all the support we can get. One of the reasons United have such an advantage is because they have so many fans worldwide, and hence more money to spend.
I agree the atmosphere at the Emirates is awful but I think there are much more constructive ways of changing this than getting rid of "the foreigners". There's a guy who sits in front of me who looked at me and a guy next to me at the Olympiakos game, neither of us being of European descent and clearly wearing Arsenal colours, and said to his mate "fucking hell they're allowed to sit up here too" (I sit in Block 115 almost above the away fans and next to the away fans who sit in the "Partner seating" at CL games). It's ignorant racist *word censored* like that who make me embarrassed to support Arsenal. Not the foreigners who worship the club and are ecstatic to be able to have the chance to get to a game. Do you live in a little village in the middle of nowhere where it's all white English? Probably the best place to stay and maybe I'd suggest supporting your local team.

I'm french, but every time I'm at the Grove I can't stop singing
I'm not sure it's a matter of nationality, it's just a matter of spirit.
I'm the president of the Arsenal Supporters Club France, and every home game we've got about 10-13 members at the stadium. I think 80-90% of them are real arsenal fans, not just curious tourists. And we try to give the tickets only to people who really care about the Club.

I have seen loads of season ticket holders and regular attenders leave early.
If they can only make 1 game a season or perhaps they have got tickets for thier 1st ever game then they will take lots of photo's ect.
Just because they dont stand, shout and sing does not make somebody a tourist it means they dont do it.
I am taking my 2 sons to the Villa game(sitting next to the away fans) and you will see me taking photo's as they dont get to many games, you probably wont see me standing up and shouting as I am with my children, depending on how they are I might leave early or not but I dont know. So by your definition on the 27th I will be a touristy fan we will be there sitting down having a hotdog a drink taking photo's and having a nice day out, I hope we win but if we dont I hope my 2 sons have a good day out

I am so sorry for 'pissin everyone off' but I dont get the chance to afford tickets for my 2 sons to go to games and when they are there I want them to enjoy themselves and if that means taking a few snaps, having a hotdog and sitting watching the game then so be it. I dont mind singing and do not mind them hearing swearing from fans but I do not like swearing in fount of them so I do not sing when I am with them(sorry for being a responcible parent).
Another point I would like to say is that you do not know anything about me apart from the post above so your generalised sweeping comment that I am the kind of bloke thats pissing everybody of is way way off the mark. I have stood on empty terraces in the rain watching Arsenal home and away for over 30 years now. Football supporters come from all backgrounds some like singing some dont some have family comitments some dont. Everyone is different and football is for everybody if you dont like it you know what you can do
Sorry but I never read the whole thread cause it's the same old shite regurgitated again....but who really gives a fuck if the announcer never knew the opposition players names...it's Hull for fuck sake.......if you're that fucking desperate buy a programme and read them out yourself.
A bit of advice would be to go more often and you'll find out where the decent areas are (or ask on a forum) and can then try to get a ticket around them.
I do have one question for you however.
Were you singing/chanting despite the lack of effort/knowledge from those around you or were you too busy watching the girls in the row behind and the foreigners in the aisles taking photos of themselves?
If the answer is no then stop complaining about the atmosphere!
Yes you do get some annoying *word censored* but you just have to try and block them out!

STG - if you simply don't want to swear in front of your children that is a perfectly responsible attitude - but you said you don't sing - surely though there is no swearing in a lot of chants - it is those who don't sing at all that bug me...
I take a lot of photos and I look after my children (or Dicko and BT ) at the match - it doesnt detract from my enjoyment or make me any less of a fan.
