Why have Arsenal always been tight

It is an embarassing argument to suggest manure chavski or mousers wont be around in twenty years, of course they will. The board seem to have sold some of you the concept that you are shareholders. You are not. The turnover and profit does not affect you. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. Before you scream Leeds and Pompey at your computer and give yourself a coronary while stroking the AFC quarterly returns, I would like to point out that there is a middle ground. Its not so much middle ground actually. Leeds/Pompey and the financing of the manure debt occupies the 1% ground of scandalous financial management.
I think there is a (relatively) rough time ahead for football but suggesting 2-3 quality signings (30-40 million) is far from putting us into the Nick Gleeson category
We have made a transfer profit each year for five years. Surely even the most evangelical amongst the AKB can see the balance between youth development and quality acquisitions has been a little off? As evidence look at the fact that we were tragically outplayed by manure in the CL semi and Chelsea spanked us at home. The *word censored* Evra can feel justified in men against boys comments.
Rather than worrying about whether the flats will sell, it is more appropriate to ask if Huntelaar will come or why didn't we go for Given. We are football fans after all

Challenging for the title most seasons? When was that then? Since the move to the new state of the art stadium we have had one creditable assault on the title and even then fell away badly with about 10 games to go. That's a quater of a season. This season at 21 games cannot be used as an example either.
You should check your own reality first bro considering what constitutes a title challenge in your book.LDB wrote:From experience I know that such negative attitudes are almost always born out of a love of the club but it really is getting to the point where some people on here are defying reality just to be negative.

I would consider a challenge being in the race with about 2 thirds of a season gone. Whether or not the challenge is successful is a completely different thing.Number 5 wrote:Ex-squeeze me? We've had some stinkers over the last few years and im not here to defend the indefensible and you certainly wont see me objecting to people calling for arsene to reinforce the squad. However, no matter how I look at AFC I see a well run, competitive club that often has me applauding in an empty room.
And dont call me bro :awnker:

The Saudi's have nothing to do with Man City . It is owned by Abu Dhabi which is a city state ( one of 7 city states which comprise the United Arab Emirates , dubai is one of the city states ) . Abu Dhabi's oil reserves are no where close to Saudi Arabia's but BT's point still stands since Abu Dhabi has more than enough wealth to keep financing Man Citeh for decades , a few hundered million pounds is pocket change .BT wrote:Olgit - Man City are owned by Saudi's not Dubai and they are sitting on most of the world's oil. Their stadium is owned by Manchester Council but does that make it worse than ours? For one, its got a better name. What Man City haven't done yet is perhaps choose the best manager, have purchased players past their peak and too many egos but they aren't going to be losing money for a long time, if ever. They have plenty of time to practice getting it right.olgitgooner wrote:Seems to me that our club are doing things that are good for our long-term future.
Winning (or purchasing) silverware is not the only way a club is measured.
We have won fuck all for a few years. But we have come very close to it. And we have played football which is admired the world over.
We have a sound financial strategy in place. One of the best managers in the world (being human, he does make a few mistakes). A new stadium. And about £300million of managable debt.
Man Utd - working up towards a £billion debt. Likely to sell Old Trafford and then lease it back. No more fat chequebook for players/wages. Ferguson losing the plot completely.
Chelsea - even the mega-rich Russian is curtailing their previously ridiculous spending. And the backbone of the team is getting a little old.
Liverpool - same level of debt as us. But no new stadium. And a manager who they can't even afford to sack. Likely to miss champions league next season.
Man City - early days. But Arab investment not yet paying off. Interesting that Dubai has overextended itself with the stupid mega hotel complex. Has not met the massive loan repayments for it. There will be reprocussions. And they don't own their own stadium.
West Ham - £100million in debt. £40million of which is owed to other football clubs. Now taken over by genuine (British) West Ham supporters. They are looking for extra investment from elsewhere. And the Icelandic bank still owns half. Hoping to move to the new stadium built for the Olympics. They will be paying rent forevermore. If it comes off.
Pompey - unpaid debts to the taxman/vatman. Winding-up order upheld in court today. They are fucked. Poor bastards.
As a Gooner, would I want to swap places with any of the above clubs?
Nope.[/b]
The thing with Arsenal, as ever, is there is a middle ground. No one is asking us to spank millions on the likes of Robinho but we could have competed for the likes of Given at 6 million without breaking the bank. Or we could have had Alonso for 16 million and arguably reaped the rewards last season. There's no guarantee Kroenke won't do what the Glazers did. Likewise, small investment now = trophies = merchandise sales, ticket sales, tv revenue, attracting and not losing the best players = more money and more trophies...
So, Bro, as I said just the one challenge since we moved home bro. And bro, certainly not most seasons is it, bro?LDB wrote:I would consider a challenge being in the race with about 2 thirds of a season gone. Whether or not the challenge is successful is a completely different thing.

Bro, my own personal definition of a challenge would be having a shout at winning it with 4 or less games to go, bro. That's a real credible attempt at the league bro.
What is this bro your opinion gets challenged and what, we start trading insults? Bro I don't roll that way.

"Don't worry about a thing,
'Cause every little thing gonna be all right."
Singin': "Don't worry about a thing,
'Cause every little thing gonna be all right!"
Rise up this mornin',
Smiled with the risin' sun,
Three little birds
Pitch by my doorstep
Singin' sweet songs
Of melodies pure and true,
Sayin', ("This is my message to you-ou-ou:")
Singin': "Don't worry 'bout a thing,
'Cause every little thing gonna be all right."

Im not seeing it. I suggested somebody vote with their wallet if they dont feel they're getting value for money wit the club before making it perfectly clear that I wasn't questioning their love of the club, just questioning their interpretation of our current situation.Number 5 wrote:Brosif, I find it sexy getting insulted. I dont see how that is talking down to anybody. You calling me bro on the other hand served no other purpose then to talk down to me. But please carry on, your antics are taking me all the way back to primary school. Simpler times.

You know what? I actually use the word bro an awful lot. On here, in the real world, at home. I alternate between bro, bud, son, pal. It is a common theme in my posting. I certainly had no intention to talk down to you using it. Well only the first time. The rest was pure unadulterated smack talk.LDB wrote: Im not seeing it. I don't think all you did was suggest someone vote with their wallet.
Your direct response to someone with a legitamte grievance, wether you agree with it or not was
Quite the condensation from on high I would say. But again, short of hitting the phone boxes at Kings Cross on my lunch break, not much else would turn me on in the day. So I like it. But you must be willing to accept it back.LDB wrote:No you pay your ticket prices to watch the best football in Europe in a state of the art stadium, challenging for the title most seasons, never failing to qualify for the champs league or get past the group stages.
Or you could just call everyone who disagree's with you a wanker. Either way is good.

Im sorry, this isnt a your-a-bad-fan argument but if you seriously think there is so much wrong with AFC then vote with your wallet.
From experience I know that such negative attitudes are almost always born out of a love of the club but it really is getting to the point where some people on here are defying reality just to be negative.
Rant over
No I dont pay my money my money to watch fancy football in a new shiny stadium - I pay my money to support my club as they strive to challenge and win trophies which is of course the ultimate aim no ? I expect that with the financial investment each and every fan puts in (especially in this economic situation) that the club would at least do everything they can to bring that success and that the players and club would understand and appreciate the financial sacrifices of the fans make but of course both expectations appear unreasonable

Magic you may well have not said that spending within reason was a bad thing but this thread never asked why we dont spend excessively but just why are we so tight and I think that the evidence shows that we are tight when it comes to spending. Anyway if you read through some of the posts you will see that some of your like minded people did say that spending money was winning by cheating and that is absolute absolute bullshit
