Could not agree with this more.bunch wrote:The real issue here is that the attendance figure given is so high becasue our 44k season ticket holders are automatically included as it was the last of the 7 cup games on the package. The empty seats demonstrate to the club that thousands of Arsenal fans couldn't be bothered turning up even though they have shelled out for the seat already. I feel ripped off (even though I was there) because if we get through against Barca the QF home leg wil be top dollar instead of it already being included becasue it was used for a league 1 side we should have beaten away from home.
Time to take the FACup off the ST. Sell the tickets for what they are worth ie marginally above the price for Carling Cup games.

That's an 11% reduction in games....but what they do is reduce the ST by, say 8%. So we pay less.....they get the long awaited price increase.....and everyone is happy!
Take all the cup games off the season ticket and give ST holders first option to buy their seats.Loyals fans who put their money upfront at the start of every season get ripped off when we play lower league opposition.Full prices for Huddersfield and Orient when both games were live on tv

Again I would suggest that this is another big issue where redaction should be seen to be doing more to represent the feelings of us fans - I dont think I have ever seen or heard a season ticket holder support the current system where cup credits are included in their season ticket prices so if redaction really do have good lines of communication with the people running our club then why can they not get this practice discontinued ? I do understand that in some cases it can and will complicate things for our ticket office - for example in cases like the manure game next wk where if it was a home cup game the tkt office would have had just 7 working days to sort out who season tkt holders would be purchasing and then to sell the rest of the seats but we all work in pressure situations so why shouldnt they?

It all comes down to money
The Club know that they've got us Season Ticket Holders over a barrel. They just tack on the Cup games because it's the easy way to ensure that all games are sell-outs. Man United do the same on their automatic Cup Credit system. Their fans are debited for the money as and when the games come up, so the money isn't taken up front, but they are committed to buying nonetheless.
I can't believe that people are stupid enough to think that the Club might entertain risking their guaranteed up-front revenue, that comes from Cup games, in exchange for relying on drawing plum teams in the Cups. The reality is that some of the games this season would not have sold out (Huddersfield / Leyton Orient for sure, plus potentially Braga). Why would the Club take this risk. People aren't going to give up their Season Ticket over this issue, it just won't happen.
Nice debate to be seen on this thread, but a pointless one.

A thought I had earlier... Should we draw with Utd next week would the replay at our place be charged at Cat A or B prices? Surely they wouldn't bump the price up to what would be the equivalent of the league fixture?
I could be wrong but we've not yet played a "Cat A" team (Chelsea, Utd, Liverpool, Spurs, Citeh) at AG in the cup have we?

It will be Cat A, as will the Champions League Quarter, if we get through.Dan_85 wrote:A thought I had earlier... I was aware that CL Last 16 onwards are Cat A prices, I have slightly less qualms paying a bit more when we're putting out a strong side against some of the best teams in the world. Let's hope we tonk Utd at Old Toilet then, I can't afford another to pay for another Cat A game at the minutefrankbutcher wrote:It will be Cat A, as will the Champions League Quarter, if we get through.Dan_85 wrote:A thought I had earlier... You won't pay for it now. It will be added to next year's Season Ticket renewal price.Dan_85 wrote:I was aware that CL Last 16 onwards are Cat A prices, I have slightly less qualms paying a bit more when we're putting out a strong side against some of the best teams in the world. Is there one thing you find reason not to defend the Board? Just one serious thing? Or am I actually right about your complete lack of objectivity?QuartzGooner wrote:They are not trying to fool anyone.
That is the amount of seats sold, regardless if anyone turns up to sit in them.
It has to be published for tax reasons.
20 years ago clubs would publish an attendance figure below the real one, to avoid paying tax on all the receipts, so the taxman clamped down on it.

Come on fella, you're fishing for an argument - I can see it a mile offUSMartin wrote:Is there one thing you find reason not to defend the Board? Just one serious thing? Or am I actually right about your complete lack of objectivity?QuartzGooner wrote:They are not trying to fool anyone.

That said, I can't really see why the taxman would give a shit what is announced over the tannoy, as long as the books are in order, surely?
Not that I care what attendance they announce... couldn't care less to be honest. We all know it's based on ticket sales and not the actual attendance, so even though I find it a bit daft, I'm not going to use it as a stick to beat the club with.
