Yeah you're right, if only we had one the beer cup last season, everyhting would have been finehighburyJD wrote:I know I know just imagine the nightmare scenario - we win the beer cup and it emboldens our players to go on and win other things
the more trophies we win the worse it gets...
dude, it must be a nightmare being you

Would have showed the team they were capable of something. Winning Mentality is one of the biggest things a team needs to posess. Ferguson knows this more than anything. Hence why even in years where the league is out of reach they usually secure a CC or an FA Cup.
Not saying we would have won the league, but I gurantee had we won the CC the collapse would not have been as drastic

no, but it would have encouraged the team to go on and win the league, it would have been our first trophy in 5 years, it would have given us something to sing about, and maybe nasri would have stayed.goonersid wrote:Yeah you're right, if only we had one the beer cup last season, everyhting would have been finehighburyJD wrote:I know I know just imagine the nightmare scenario - we win the beer cup and it emboldens our players to go on and win other things

although I can't imagine you or babatunde ever celebrating anything arsenal ever do. did you celebrate the 71 title win perchance? or did you just roll your eyes and say "yeah, cuz that makes us for seventeen years of fuck all

I obviously want Wenger out, but I'd still rather have won one trophy than no trophies.goonersid wrote:Yeah you're right, if only we had one the beer cup last season, everyhting would have been finehighburyJD wrote:I know I know just imagine the nightmare scenario - we win the beer cup and it emboldens our players to go on and win other things

It looks like we're going to be stuck with AW for better or worse, so if we find ourselves in a cup final, then I'm going to want us to win.

Fair point and winning does help the club.rigsby wrote:Would have showed the team they were capable of something. Winning Mentality is one of the biggest things a team needs to posess. But basically I cannot see us beating their 2nd XI? Would be bloody good for the club though, hopefully we go and get 3/4...because they are likely to score a hat full.

I wish the club would make its mind up as to whether it wants to be in this competition or not.
Last season we heard so much about how in January and February we played too many games and how it killed us, and all I'm reading at the moment is how difficult the fixture list is etc.
If we want to win trophies of any nature this is going to happen, every year - why does it seem to be such a shock. There wasn't even a World Cup or Euro tournie to blame from the Summer. Guess what - the FA Cup starts in January, and we've also got the African Nations Cup about to temporarily reduce the squad size by a couple.
I just don't understand the surprise and the whining about fixtures. By his own admission players like Benayoun haven't played as much as they should have.
Of course if we had a genuinely big squad, rather than a small one with a number of supporting makeweights, the likes of Ramsey, Song, Van Persie etc wouldn't have to play so many bloody games to start with

as seems likely and we pretty much change the entire team from Saturday (added to the fact that it is only £10 entry tonight) I don't think Wenger is particularly bothered about tonight.
given our league position he is probably right but it is about time he stated that the club's ambitions are to win trophies again and not just finish in the top 4.
