John Radford
the reasons charlie is still so highly regarded is that as well as being a match-winner on his day (much like RvP at the mo) he was a true gooner who used to support the team from the northbank while he was an apprentice at the club. he also grew up in holloway which meant he knew a lot of the local fans personally and would regularly travel to the ground on public transport. basically, afc to the core which is why he's been back at the club for so long doing what he doesSpanishJoe wrote:I'm delighted to discover that I'm not the only one who thinks Charlie George is overrated. Radford was a better player and did so much more for us. People have mentioned his talent but I'll always remember he was a hard worker as well.
Great shout from potter about George Armstrong. My first footballing hero and one of the most underrated players ever. If you look up his stats you'll be amazed. For me he had everything.
his perceived cockiness didn't suit bertie mee's disciplinarian style and led to him being forced out of the club before he realised his full potential but was awesome when dave mckay took him to derby

The 71 double team always got a bad press because we equaled the Spuds 61 double win.And the Spud loving media never forgave us for it.How dare we
Because we had a good defence we were called boring. But Armstrong Graham George Radford and Kennedy were all flair players
Ray Kennedy was never quick and had a problem with his weight and struggled in the next few years and he ended up being sold to Liverpool(Shankly's last buy) and with a masterstroke they played him in midfield. The rest as they say is history. Our loss their gain

John Radford is a legend to my 12 year old boy...not that he saw him play.... we were having problems at the ticket office at Bolton (I was ranting
) when they had put me in the upper and him in the lower and Radford came over and took us into the office and got it all sorted in no time, my boy was starstruck and now knows more about him than I do (www)

I distinctly remember someone running on the pitch and putting an Arsenal scarf on him at HT or something. He had got a great reaction and it was just a nice little touch. George takes it and throws it to the ground (think he also had something else put on and he threw that off as well) Does anyone else remember that?
Also the fucker nearly went to Spurs.

Yep. And he played bloody well for Derby before it went sour...
