Santos out for three months

I have now seen direct Wenger quotes saying he isn't in the market for a defender, a midfielder or a striker!

Who could have predicted all the injuries to our full backs? I really don't know what people are expecting  Santos clearly needed match practice.

Vermaelen can play left back, so it's covered. I'd certainly rather he did the job than some left back child from the youth team.

It's the reason you build a top strength squad. Risk planning for bad and worst case scenarios.

Surely the point is that Wenger knew he had one fit full back left and yet risked him in a pointless nothing game.

It's all well saying you'd rather TV5 play LB than some kid and I'd agree with that to some extent, but that glosses over the fact that our best CH is now playing as a LB!

And today we have Wenger making statements that we don't need to sign anyone! Is the man just incapable of learning from his past mistakes?! :banghead:

Totally agree who would have predicted injuries to our full backs at the same time but that makes playing Santos in a meaningless game an even more ridiculous decision by Mr. Knows  and as for Vermaelen his best position for the team is Centre back so again counting on him to cover is a load of *****

Yeah Kiwomya, I mean WHO coulda predicted an injury to Gibbs eh?
And with our outstanding record with injuries, who coulda predicted mass injuries eh? Who coulda predicted that the point of building a squad, is to mitigate against serious injury? Who coulda known a professional football team would suffer a key injury? It never happens does it!!! Players are supposed to play every single game of the season! Just ask Vidic, Essien or Gerrard.
In fact, who knew football was now a squad game!!! When did this happen??
Jenkinson was clearly never supposed to step in, as is the case with Djourou.
Still. Let's play our best CB out of position and persist with the liability Mertesacker at the back. There's no problems at all, Arsene is right to sign no one...nah it's all a ruse! Arsene is working undercover and will get Goetze, Llorente and Jagielka....
Like I said: how does this script go again?

But at the same time do you really think it would be a good idea to have 3 left backs in the first team squad? or 3 right backs? How many players would be prepared to be a 3rd choice in a position like that?!

That's why we buy versatile players to cover multiple positions.

I understand the frustration about Santos in that particular game but IMO he needed match practice. We gamble with RVP every week.
