Best moments of the drought

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

I think looking back long-term, rather than pick out any certain moment, we will think of this as:

- The era of the Stadium Move and the fall out from that.
- Reluctance to spend big whilst our billionaire rivals did.
- Shift of the club away from old style football club to modern corporation (some modernisation when Dein came in 1982 but I would argue it always remained a football club first and foremost under him, he put the team first then everything else followed).
- Technical players replacing power players.
- Reliance on youth.
- Wenger being caught up and surpassed by rival managers.

I think, perhaps bluntly, that only a few players will be remembered:
The following players will be remembered more than others:

- Cesc - a very good player.
- Van Persie - Controversial character, great skill but left on sour note.
- Walcott - Representing the "youth" policy, polite and scandal free, took a long while to fulfill potential but came good, a lot more to the story to follow.
Sagna - High profile hair, solid club man and hard as nails, bit of a cult hero.
- Ozil - massive transfer fee will be remembered, the rest is yet to be written.

The best moment is yet to happen. It'll be when Wenger leaves.

that is probaly my worst moment as an Arsenal Fan.

as Herd said, it still feels like I lost a close family member.

The 3-1 at the Lane 2007...all pundits predicted a defeat for us but we turned a 0-1 deficit into a fantastic win .. The Adebayor song got its first airing that day from The Scum fans.. was how they took the moral high ground when he was their player.

I've got a Scum-supporting friend who is also a huge Michael Jackson fan, and he gets very touchy if anyone veers toward the MJ/paedophile subject. Yet he finds it perfectly justifiable - and funny - to still chant 'Sit down you paedophile' at Wenger to this very day. And doesn't seem to understand the hypocrisy at all.

I suppose it could be viewed that day - I remember saying to my then wife as I was leaving that I would probably be quite emotional when I got home to be met with 'for God's sake its a bloody football stadium' - She's now my ex-wife

I suppose the reason I include it here is that, given the circumstances, it was a pretty bloody good way to bow out for the reasons stated above, and the (mostly) classy way that the whole day was handled (I say mostly because that god awful Roger Daltrey song still haunts me)

And I enjoyed the cheer Eduardo's late consolation goal got v Shaktar,it didn't matter because we were 5-0 up at the time.

lol. I had a girlfriend once who after i'd get up at 5am on Saturday morning, drive to Guernsey airport, catch a 7am flight (100 quid), then a train to victoria (20 quid), tube to Holloway Road (3 quid), watch the match (10 quid), run to Hollway road at full time, tube to victoria, run to get the gatwick express, run to catch the last flight back, fly back, drive home, get in at 9pm, and then be in a bad mood when we lost, would say "its only football"....

:banghead:

i was tempted to run her cat over so many times - "its only a cat..." but i didn't as it wasn't his fault.

Was the cat called Arsene?

The miracle of not doing a Portsmouth or Leeds

Walking into the Emirates for the first time in 2006 and being in awe while thinking how there was just no other stadium in the world like it.

That exquisite Carlos Vela chip in the title decider at Old Trafford that sealed the title and won him the golden boot for the season.

The moving moment when Arsenal legend Adebayor threw his shirt to the Arsenal fans at the end of the game at Man City as a token of his gratitude to the club and fans for what they did for his career.

The sheer genius of Wenger and the unprecedented success of Project Youth. Take that Ashley Cole, how does it feel to have won fuck all since you left?

Bendtner’s cool finish late on in the Nou Camp that put us into the next round of the CL and saw us go on to win the competition. Again!

The late equaliser against Chelsea that meant it was 10 games out of 10 where Mourinho had failed to beat Wenger. Will he ever do it?

Coming back from 4-0 down at St James' Park

The stance we took over Nasri, Fabregas, RvP etc. I loved it when Wenger laughed off Barcelona's futile efforts and when he told Ferguson to FUCK OFF after he had put in a bid for RvP.

The club announcing a 6% decrease in ticket prices as Arsenal show their class and integrity once again by taking a stance against the dizzying prices of modern football.

Wenger publically coming out and saying there is no fucking way he’d ever let a mercenary like Flamini come back to the club after the way he chose to walk out.

Almunia becoming the first goalkeeper to win European Footballer of the Year.
Brilliant 8)

no but i did have two called Limpar and Merson after i moved out.

Merson was so called because he stayed out all night and came in the mornings looking rough....

Scum fan and a tottingham fan too? (see what I did there?! ). That's two strikes against him having any taste or, indeed, a brain. 8)
