Not as good as sagna in my eyes either - that being said, I have to accept that he is gone and for me debouchy is an ok replacement and is a better option than some that were suggested
Debuchy has taken over from sagna as first choice rb in the French national team, surely that means another manager thinks he's better than sagna. Quite why he's gone to citeh is mystifying as zabaleta is a much better rb and will only get limited chances. I'm happy with this signing, I thought he done well at the world cup and done well in a really poor Newcastle team. Coleman has had one outstanding season, was pretty shite and injured previously, believe me, the evertonians I know were extremely surprised by him last season. As ive said he's replaced sagna at international level only makes sense he replaces him at club level. A good signing.

It's a lot to spend for someone of his age but I understand the logic of Wenger signing him (he's french), and we desperately needed a replacement for Sagna.
I sincerely hope he can hit the ground running.

Fantastic.
We can now look forward to him and Giroud...linking up, more often.

(look how Debuchy caresses Giroud's hair)

United didn't bid a reasonable price though. They came in with a pretty ridiculous joint offer for Baines and Fellaini which was never going to be accepted and never bothered following up on Baines. He was obviously going to command a higher price as he is English, established there, offers them loads going forward and is although worth a few goals a season via set pieces. Wouldn't really be reasonable to expect Everton to accept that bid.Justinsaid wrote:Yea I suppose you're right, Everton would have just rolled over and let us have Coleman for a reasonable price. Just like they did when Utd wanted Baines and Baines wanted Utd last season?!northbank123 wrote:Let's be realistic here, Coleman would have grabbed the chance to join us with both hands and Everton would have sold at a fair price if he was desperate to go. Martinez is hardly a stubborn bloke who would risk bad vibes in the team for the sake of keeping hold of a player he'll view as replaceable by one of many young talents inevitably on his radar. Realistically you're looking £15-18m which is a fair whack for a full-back but when you think Debuchy is 29 this month and the money we allegedly spent on him it's hardly unjustifiable.Justinsaid wrote:I don't get how this signing is getting such a negative reaction from most of you guys. But then I shouldn't expect any better. He is a solid RB, who might not be the most exciting signing in the world but will slot straight into the team and do a good job for us. He knows the league well, and sure he may not have set the world alight last season but he was part of a shocking Newcastle team that decided they didn't want to compete anymore from about February onwards.
You guys really are a difficult bunch to please, bar Coleman who a) might have cost a fortune or not been available and b) might be happy and settled where he is and not interested in moving, who else would you have wanted?
I suppose Deschamps doesn't know what he's doing either?
Anyway, I'm not at all disappointed at us looking for a safe, solid option at RB, it's a sound choice. I'm just not sure Debuchy offers that. Guess you'll never know as the circumstances at Newcastle and Arsenal are completely different, hope he proves me wrong and proves to be a sound acquisition there.

Have to say I think he is an improvement on Sagna.

Pleased with the signing, really don't see a better option without spending stupid money. I'd rather then have some cash left to spend on a DM.

Not an improvement on Sagna at Sagna's peak, but certainly an improvement on the limited, mistake-prone, sullen Sagna of the last couple of seasons.goonersid wrote:Have to say I think he is an improvement on Sagna.
I'll wait and see what the man delivers as a player before judging him.
Oh - whoever asked why Sagna went to Citeh with very limited chances to play? Money, mate. No other reason. Just money.

I fully agree. He has replaced Sagna in the french team and his stats line up as good as Sagna. A very good signingNos89 wrote:augie wrote:markyp wrote:great,12m for a worse right back than Bacs

Really hope the mauling that Newcastle had for most of the year wont play on him, Still feel that the defensive attributes of defenders are being neglected at the expense of playing at being false wingers

I am so whelmed by this signing
However, I am going to let the bloke play for us before I start to judge.
His crossing is better than Sauna for a start, at least it can beat the first man.
