Willie young got the 1st mate and brian McDermott got the 2nd it was stapletons last game for us as wellHerd wrote:The Villa game was unique in that we needed a win to ensure European football and Villa were going for the championship.
In a rare move Arsenal made the clock end all ticket 20,000 and all given to Villa which ensured a bumper crowd .
Our stupid manager was quoted in the papers saying if Villa won the league they should be allowed to celebrate on the pitch ,Nice one terry ! ! !
We decided they shall not get away with that and all displaced clock end mob packed the West stand lower tier terrace.
Dennis Hillwood the then Chairman and a great man was against advertising at Highbury as he felt it lowered the tone of the place.
So the ATARI was a test case , they were allowed a Total of four banners on the East and West Stands and nothing pitch side at all.
Atari brought Pele on , their microphones didn't work but it mattered not , as soon as Pele's bonce was clocked in the glass case the crowd went ape-shit and he had to do a lap of honour to a rapturous ovation from all sides of the ground, I think even the great Pele was taken aback at the love shown to him that day .
So we are winning 2-0 and I cant remember who scored but suddenly the Villa end is alive and Ipswich have blown it leaving Villa as Champs but before they could hit the pitch Arsenal stormed it from West stand in their thousands and the OB had to push as back to allow Villa on .
Was a great day and a fun night , I met 2 Villa lads b4 the game in the Plimsol and we told em to meet us in the Tavern afterwards , a great night down Jock Macdonalds studio 21 and I ended up in a railway siding at 5 am with a villa scarf on.
We kept in touch with the Villa lads for years and i ended up going out with one of ems sister for a while !
On Saturday nights we'd go to the belfry and take the piss out of the Villa players who always seemed to be there !
As for the chavs I really dont want them lording it at the emirates so we need to beat the fuckers even more than usual !
Its a tall ask !
Chav$ to win PL at AG? / Atmos at Highbury

This good run we're on at the moment lulled me into thinking that we were safe from this frightening event happening!
I can hear it now, 'We won the league..at the library..'
Please God don't let it happen

It's not happening. Chelsea play manure when we play in the cup semi. We will need to drop points vs Burnley and they will need to win all their games for it to be remotely possible. It would be nice to see one of moaninho's sides implode but they always get results when it matters. Still 2nd would be an achievement for us and let's get those two players we need in the summer.

3 points at Burnley and it can't happen, anything else and we'll need them to slip up somewhere..................
Re: Chelsea to win the league at AG?
Lets hope we do a job on burnley and chelsea f**k up before they come to our place!
Would be nice to have something to aim for in the next few games rather than just prize money

Yes of course, irrespective of goal diff even they couldn't be crowned, but a draw just will not do......Eboue-Why? wrote:A draw would be okYou are my sunshine wrote:3 points at Burnley and it can't happen, anything else and we'll need them to slip up somewhere..................

Is it me being remembering or was the atmosphere that day amazing....was in the North Bank the noise was deafening, yeah came on from West Stand first just before ref blew the whistle for full time....beck wrote:Willie young got the 1st mate and brian McDermott got the 2nd it was stapletons last game for us as wellHerd wrote:The Villa game was unique in that we needed a win to ensure European football and Villa were going for the championship.

Found this on Reddit, this is the only way Chelsea could win the league at our ground:
No way will all that happen.we lose to Burnley
Manchester derby ends in a draw
Chels beat QPR and Man Utd
they beat us at the Emirates
Man city drop points to west ham at home
Re: Chelsea to win the league at AG?
The atmosphere for the Villa game was one of the best I've ever seen at Highbury for a day game and as stated it was rocking .
I'm not sure what they announce the crowd at but I think it was around 57,000 but it was the beginning of the slide !
Stapleton as you say walked out for MUFC and Brady had gone to Juventus .
Brady was on pitiful wages at Arsenal if I remember, around 7,000` pounds per year ,I think he asked for 15,000 and they turned
him down , Juventus paid him a massive 30,000 ,Stapletons situation was much the same .
The good thing of course was that Arsenal leaned their lesson and have never allowed their best players to go elsewhere because of money or lack of ambition sicne that time ,have they ?

This AIDS-ridden cloud of shite has safely passed I think. No way those chav cúnts are winning it at our place.
