As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.
Thats a load of bollocks, they are just cheap African air horns.
African culture my arse, they are only recent things.
.
Because you know so much about African culture. They've been around since re-unification and come from tribal horns used to declare war and bring all the tribes around together.
the origin of the vuvuzela is much disputed, but it is well known that they have only become very popular in South Africa since cheap plastic versions were mass produced in around 2001. The makers of the vuvuzela state "the first prototype was from America and changed somewhat for more comfortable blowing and effectiveness. We have researched the history of the Vuvuzela, and follows a trail back to a women’s Chinese basketball team". As a result, it is probably wrong to claim it is part of some tribal culture stretching back hundreds of years
Either way, it certainly hasnt long been a part of their footballing culture, and so i dont think there is any reason not to ban them. If they are so loud that it can damage people's hearing, they should be banned imo

I remember us playing in Moscow in 2001 and hearing loads of these things making that noise. Nobody gave a shit about it then. I blame Mosow for it all.

Perhaps these were the alleged 'Weapons of Mass Distraction' George Bush was going on about? In which case, I think that only validates the decision to invade Iraq!!! Perhaps the 'big dog' knew what would happen 9 years in the future? And you all though Bush was stupid, eh?

A guy had one of these today at work. It was about 6am and obviously we were all still half asleep, he blew the thing and I think half of us nearly died from a heart attack. It was unbelievably loud and annoying. I don't know how the fans can hack that all game, I don't even think ear plugs would do it.
